<< <i>I'm going to agree with ksteelheader on this one. Most of us know the term mentally retarded (retarded being the shortened version) is now socially unacceptable. When I was younger, kids used the abbreviated versions "retard" and "tard" to put each other down. Some younger people still do, as evidenced here on at least several occasions.

Anyway, then it became "developmental disability" and "intellectual disability". Now it's "intellectually challenged"... because "disabled" is a "negative". Everything is about positive reinforcement now, here in the 2000's... I know the scene.

However, to say something like "remove the word 'retard' from your post as I find it offensive". That's not quite the way I would put it. In fact, how the hell damn self centered is that. Because "I" find it offensive. It's that kind of self important victim mentality that rubs people the wrong way. >>

Maybe if you had a DD person in your family you would find it offensive as well. I merely suggested he remove it. Your paraphrasing makes is sound as if I demanded it. I'm sure others here were also insulted by the use of the word.

It was not my intent to make it look as though you demanded he remove the word. It was the notion that he should remove it because YOU found it offensive. The four words "I find it offensive" suggest that he should do this because of YOU and you alone. It's the air of self importance I took exception with. I'm sure OTHERS were insulted by his use of that word, as you have just now indicated.

I don't know about right now but Paypal use to require signature confirmation or you were just out of luck. That's the proof they required for a dispute such as yours.

I do not see why you spent 8 days to decide the coin was POS but in this day and age paypal will side with the buyer. When you asked the "cleaning" question you got your answer.

I am not a big fan of the word retarted, but i am tired of always trying to appease everyone. Some on these forums would break down crying if they saw some of the newspapers that i have framed from WW2 with the words the reporters used for the headlines.

    I should have stated:

Please remove the word from your post as it is not politically correct and Some may find it offensive. I acted hastily b/c I was appalled & offended and didn't choose my words wisely. If anything I was thinking of those with DD such as my uncle and not myself. I did not count on being criticized for the comment I made. Kind of strange how that turned out.

    Foxer,

Sorry for your troubles. I too have encountered a lot of problems lately dealing with unscrupulous sellers playing hardball and refusing to accepting returns/refunds for blatantly inferior or mis-described coins. These greedy crooks don't really care if you (the customer) is satisfied or not; they just want your money. It's a shame.

in retrospect, you probably would have been better off going with just the Signature Confirmation ONLY. That alone would have been sufficient for proof of delivery, at least as far as PayPal is concerned. As long as the recipient signs for it, he can't claim he never got it. On top of that, Postal Insurance is a huge waste of money, IMHO. As long as you pack the item securely and address it accurately and neatly, 99.99% of the time your package will arrive just fine without getting damaged or "lost." Of course, that's something the Post Office will never admit to, being that they're making a fortune off of those outrageous insurance fees they charge.

I hate to jump to conclusions here, but it sounds to me like the seller is trying to hustle you. How convenient for him that THAT particular returned item just happened to be the one that got "lost" in transit. I suppose it's possible, just that it's highly unlikely. I find that Postal employees forget to scan ALL of the labels sometimes, which is another reason why I happen to think it's a bad idea to send out a package with multiple additional services. For all we know, the seller did receive the coin after all, but he knows he can play the P.O.'s screw-up to his advantage and get away with it!

The stated return policy did not specify how many days I had, and my packages get sent to a different address so I don't necessarily receive them when they are delivered.

What reason did I have to not take my time?

I could understand that 2 weeks to a month would be ridiculous,... but a week isn't unacceptable to me.

Whenever I list something I clearly state everything.

So when I go to return it 8 days later he argues "you only have 7 days"

What if I tried 4 days later....... would he have said "sorry, you only have 3 days to return an item... that's what I ALWAYS do, you should know these things"

If he doesn't state it in the binding contract that I agreed to by bidding,..does that give him to right to make up the rules as he goes, and in his favor?

  • << <i>If you would like to have less fun like this, buy slabbed coins, that are already graded. They are available in abundance. >>

Exactly. Apmex sells PCGS and NGS slabbed gold, although it's at a set price. Usually very competitive to recently sold items on Ebay. they also sell on ebay. I trust them a lot.

But, since joining Ebay in 1999, I've had problems with coins. There was a woman in NY sellilng dozens of $50 gold eagles. 100% positive feedback. She sold all her coins,
but no buyers got them. Gold was around $500/oz then.

One buyer in NY filed a complaint w/the attorney general. A year later, we all got our money back.

Needs to be a better place to buy coins than Ebay. I won't buy anything over $50 on Ebay anymore, and only if it's late at night and I'm not thinking clearly. Which means almost never.

I believe each person selling coins on Ebay should have a credit check as though they were going to purchase a house....for the right to sell coins. I might feel a little better if that were the case.

Or, ebay might consider a 5% fee for 'in house' insurance on coin sales, to cover issues like this one.

    Jeeze, what a mess.

I do not see how any buyer is having any issues with ebay now. It is a buyer market there since paypal will let any buyer claim not as described. I have a few thousand completed transactions and until recently never had any issues. Lately i have taken back a few items that i did not feel i should but what is the point in argueing with paypal. 2 items i sold the buyers wanted to lower the price once in hand. ( i would never do that and do not see why any seller would) and 1 or 2 actually relisted the item i sold trying to profit and then returned it. LOL.

I am not an expert on ebay but i think when a seller clicks on returns accepted it will prompt the seller to pick 3 days or 7 days for returns. I picked 3 days for my auctions but would take it back 2 weeks later ( or longer) only because i do not feel like aurgueing back and forth over a 250 dollar item. As long as i can get the item sold back in the same condition i have no real issue with buyers trying to skirt being responsible for there actions. There are a lot of scam buyers trolling ebay right now and as long as i do not more than my fair share it is fine. Ebay with all of its issues is still better for me than a 10k monthy expense for a brick and mortar building.

I still say 8 days is too long to want a return without a note to the seller asking for more time even if the time is not specified. This is not Sears, Home Deport or walmart here.

I must be the minority cause i generally can decide in a minute or so upon recieving an item i won from ebay wether i like it or not.

As far as the post office is concerned, i would not argue with the ******S, tell them what you want and ask them 1 time to do it that way.

listen little ricky (or, is it crystal? image ), you've been here less than a month and you are quite mouthy. Maybe you should:
    1) Learn to type your thoughts COHERENTLY so others can understand them
    2) Use spacing and punctuation, and properly (the occassional misstep is ok, then, only Ken will nudge you image )
    3) Get a sense of humor
    4) Pull yourself out of the "woe is me! I am so attacked just because I posted like a yaha"
    5) See #1-4 again....repeat as necessary image

You are showing yourself to be some low class ass. The word RETARD is ignorant.

I for one dont think you have anything of substance to add, now or EVER. So from here on out, Ill block your posts.

Good luck posting here and getting anywhere with your attitude and name calling.

<< <i>I have a similar problem right now with the PO. I sent a $300 package to DC and it was not received by addressee, but it was signed for by "USPS". I put in a claim and am now waiting. PO told me the claim would be rejected because PO shows it was "delivered". I then have to resubmit the claim and it will be paid if addressee will sign a "never received" form or letter. A mess, I have never had a problem with a "sign for" insured package.

I never use DelCon because it is totally worthless. There is no recourse when the PO shows it delivered and the addressee never received it. They put it in the wrong mailbox or PO box. I have lost 2 packages so far. One I asked to be insured and Seller thought he would save me a couple of bucks, he didn't tell me but he sent with DelCon. Voila! I am out $100, more importantly a very nice 1807 CBH.

Have a great vacation! Everything will work out. >>

  • <<To me the best money spent when sending a package is Sig confirmation.>>

Has anybody had much experience with registered mail return receipt requested option? I haven't used it much. But twice now the receipt form has gone missing. The first time I asked for a trace which was my stated right. The post office sent me a $5 postage due letter telling me it was not traceable and they were charging me for the investigation since they had no record of my requesting return receipt. My local postman urged me to NOT accept the letter. My local postmaster refunded my money and phoned the recipient. The recipient apologized and said he hadn't noticed the slip on the registered letter. (I had no idea that was his job.) The delivery confirmation then did show up promptly. It had been a long time, already, and another long time before I got an answer to the letter.

My most recent and second case is a "don't care" situation now. I have received a satisfactory response to the letter.

I find it interesting that both the Federal Government of Canada and the Provincial Government of New Brunswick recommend private overnight couriers for communications rather than the postal services.

Return receipt is a joke. Half the time I get a Registered package, the return receipt is still stuck on the back of it!
