  • Yeah, I have an 1894-s dime that has a hole drilled right where the mint mark used to be. You reckon he could restore it for me so it would once again be worth it's true value?

Is there a Doctor in the house???
  • Oh, and I've never heard of him/them. Not sure if I'm happy about knowing about them now. Scary!

without even following the link, no doubt this is re Alan Stockton. I suspect I unwittingly acquired some of his work in my early collecting days. As his site says, he took the baton from his father so this has been an available service for many moons.

IMO, its perfectly acceptable to restore a damaged coin but totally wrong to not disclose the repair.

Scary. "my father, Paul E. Stockton started restoring coins in the late 1950's and continued to restore coins by himself until 1991 when I joined him. "
    Its all relative

    I've used him, he's good.
He'll quote you a price, you pay up front.
Expect a 4 month delay as he's backed up all the time.

Nothing at all wrong with coin restoration.
Some coins are just plain "Interesting"

Stockton does really good work and it wouldn't surprise me if some of his work has found its way into top tier slabs.

He's been around for years. I think he does a good service from what I have heard. I remember there were more people doing this twenty five years ago. I think they even advertised in the coin papers back then. I remember this being discussed here before a few years back. image
