1950 South Africa 5 shilling PCGS Proof 68.
I just liked the lower proof mintage on this one....500.
I am hoping for a crop of new S.A. coin collectors when gold spikes to $1500.

I've got a white, raw 1949. I can't tell if it is a proof or an UNC. Looks slightly prooflike but not superdeep on the mirrors. If it is a proof, it's probably only PR62 at best.
PR68, wow.

<< <i>After I typed that I saw it in the title... DUH!!! Are the scratches on the top of the obverse on the holder?? I like the look of the coin itself but not the toning. Nice pick up for such a low mintage though! I'm envious.. >>

The slab is a bit beat up (it's an OGH).
The next time I come down, we'll have to have a slab-polishing party the night before I start shooting.

<< <i>This is one I'd love to have time to experiment with at home where I can play around more with lighting and angles. There is actually quite a bit of color not apparent in these straight-on shots. These shots capture the detail but not the color. Unfortunately, I didn't like the results of any of the on-the-fly angled shots I tried while I was down there.

Nice coin, nice image! Proofs with color are brutal to capture; add a layer of scratched plastic and it becomes beyond brutal. Anyway, very nice job CoinPictures!
<< <i>What are you guys using to polish slabs with? >>
Generally, the Novus brand of plastic polishes works well. People used to sell it on eBay.
I'm feeling pretty good about this one which I still own.

Hey if you get tired of waiting for Au to hit $1500, I'll consider relieving you of this burdensome example
