Who has lead the league in the MOST STATS in one season?

DIdnt Lou Gehrig lead the League in AVG HR RBI RUNS SLG OBA in his Triple crown year?

maybe Rogers Hornsby in the 20's (who won 2 triple crowns-- Ruth never one any)

Should there be a Quadruple Crown? Quintuple Crown?

anyone know?

There are three eras of baseball...the pre and post deadball eras and the PED era. The first two are legitimate.

did you post that in the wrong thread?

not sure i get what your saying

No. I'm saying almost every power hitter in this era has been tied to PEDs. So I discard the stats from the past 15 years when looking at achievements in MLB.
  • Using only those stats on baseballreference standard batting and throwing out ones that are so strongly correlated, Hornsby led the NL in eight categories in 1921, a year he did not win the triple crown. Musial had eight a few times also. Ted Williams is ahead of both of them with nine in 1949, again not a triple crown year

Ruth's best was seven, Gehrig six

I discard stats from the NHL because I don't follow that sport. Doesn't really mean anything. . .

WHy limit it to hitting? I would imagine Koufax in the mid 60's Gooden in the mid 80's and Maddux in the mid 90's led the league in a large number of categories. Another thing to consider is setting the parameters for the question, as officially kept stats come and go. Remember the GWRBI?

Didnt Johan Santana lead every major pitching category a few years ago when he went like 13-1 after the break on his way to winning the AL Cy Young?

    Hi Matt!!
  • Who leads this forum with the most meaningless threads?

If you count all the alts, fandango. However, Mintacular is doing his best to claim the title from the champ.

Guys , you are soo intellectually challenged , in the fact that you have not come to the ultimate conclusion, that Fandango's object of mancrush , is the world's bestest speciman of manhood , since the creation .

If you had not spent so much time , wasted time at that , looking at sports objectively , and simply admired his ( Fandango's mancrush )awesomeness , you could have all spent the rest of the day , and next week as well , starting up threads that totally prove the misconception.

So guys , get off your lazy butts and give Fandango , his affimation , he craves.

Nolan Ryan doesn't make this list
          Enjoy your collection!

        • IP and batters faces are highly correlated. H/9 is a component of WHIP and K/9 is a component of BB/K Ratio. Other than that, very good work

Some of these pitching categories are not extremely relevant, IMHO. Nonetheless, the question was posed and here's what I've found thus far. I felt ERA Plus, while it may be the best stat, is a bit to Sabremetric for my taste. Most that led in ERA also led in ERA Plus anyway.

I'm also putting a new criteria for posting that one has to lead the league in at least two of the major three categories (W, K, ERA)
          Enjoy your collection!

In 1948, Stan Musial had ...

          135 Runs
          230 Hits
          46 Doubles
          18 Triples
          131 RBIs
          .376 BA
          .450 OBP
          .702 SLG

All these led the league. Musial also had 39 home runs. Kiner and Mize led the league with 40. Musial did hit his 40th home run that season, but it was wiped-out by a rain shortened game.

In 1921, Rogers Hornsby had ...

          131 Runs
          235 Hits
          44 Doubles
          18 Triples
          126 RBIs
          .397 BA
          .458 OBP
          .639 SLG

          and in 1922 had ...

          141 Runs
          250 Hits
          46 Doubles
          42 Triples
          152 RBIs
          .401 BA
          .459 OBP
          .722 SLG

All these led the league. And finally, really, really old school.

In 1887, Tip O'Neil of St. Louis in the American Association had ...

          167 Runs
          225 Hits
          52 Doubles
          19 Triples
          14 Home Runs
          123 RBIs
          .435 BA
          .490 OBP
          .691 SLG ... all in 124 games!

          All these led the league.

          You guys are all wrong.

Dan Marino lead the league in nearly every passing category in 1984. Tom Brady took it up one more notch in 2007. I think both of those seasons are tops in my book.
