I was detecting an old lakeside park once when an old guy asked me this.
I could tell he was kinda mocking me.
I'd just found a 1916 wheat cent in real high grade. I pulled it out and showed it to him. It turned out to be his birth year. He offered me $5 for it on the spot.
I gave it to him for free and went about my business.

standard reply is "not much, couple pennies", no matter what I've been finding.

I'm with the rest of you. I never tell them exactly what I've found. "Just some pocket change and pull taps. There sure are a lot of tabs around here"

Found a paperclip and a bottlecap, 'bout it so far. Do you live in an old house? I'd like to search the yard if you do.

    "Find Anything?"

"I always find something......not always something worth finding."

If they press further I say "Pocket change." or "Battery money".

I usually say "just enough to buy a cup of coffee".
