Toughest Commons List?

Does anyone know if there is a list compiled (beyond the Pop Report) of the toughest common cards in each vintage set? Something that could be easily checked for quick reference?

The population report tells you how many of each have been graded and at what grade. From that you can infer what the "tough" commons are.

Yes, I'm aware of the pop report. I'm looking for something that's been compiled at some point into a message or other format that's a lilttle faster to access than scrolling through each set in the PR.

So, in other words, is there someone that can show you some place to find information that has taken others hours upon hours to compile and interpret so that you may profit from such information without having to put any effort forward?

Nothing personal, but that's how it comes across...

Not that I am aware of. How about you do it and create a thread so we all can benefit?

    Wow, ask a simple question....

I know it's been discussed on a set-by-set basis here numerous times, but wasn't sure if anyone had ever put together a larger list and shared it...and yes, I've gone through the pop report myself for several sets. It's been awhile, though.

Sometimes the simple questions are more than meets the eye.

As I said, nothing personal and if it was a harmless question, I apologize if my response was offensive. However, I've spent a lot of time on several other issues and once the list was shared, I found a new level of competition to procure the variations that I noted and NO ONE that was willing to help me out or offer any consideration for my time and efforts. So perhaps you can understand my cynicism.

I am sure there are some ole' timers around these boards that just patrol looking or appearing to act like know-it-alls willing to help you out...

In all seriousness...good luck with creating/finding this...

The problem is the pops change all the time, what was low pop 3 years ago may not be low pop now.

Also, most people only know the series/set that they work on.

I would bet that people like 4SC and DSL know but I don't think they would be willing to share that info.

Your idea is a good one, it just isn't practical for anyone person or persons to have such info at their fingertips

and are willing to share it.

Oh and for the record, it would be a good thread for someone to create where people
could add whatever info they had for the set(s) they know about.

    Sorta like the mail thread.

The thing is people have to be up to date on the set they know most about.

I knew the 65 set back when I was doing it, what was low pop then may or may not be low pop now.

Be nice to try though, the thing is I think many would not like to share the info.

    I could be wrong.

Truthfully, I'm more interested in just a general consensus of the top 5 or 6 cards that are often miscut, off-center, print-marked, etc. from the standpoint of someone putting together sets--whether they're raw or graded. I'd guess the pop report would be a pretty good barometer of that, even if it does change regularly--and that's why I came here. The pop reports are accessible if you're a member so I don't know that the info is top secret---just a chore to comb through as we all know. I certainly understand the competition concerns when it comes to low pop cards for expensive sets. I don't put graded sets together or even do much buying/selling anymore but some kind of organized reference list beyond the stars/RCs, etc would be beneficial.

On another note---does anyone know if there is a list of which set contains the LAST cards of HOFers? (i.e., Mantle-1969, Brock 1979, etc)

Rip there is a thread going on right now with that very information, comb through it.

As for raw, I don't think any card is impossible to find well made. Graded is another story.

It would take a couple hours at most to download all the regular issue sets from Bowman and Topps up to 1980 into one or more spreadsheets. You can then sort the data to find low pops and hard nines. If you do this work yourself it will teach you what you need to know to be a good cherrypicker. Then your next question will probably be, does anyone know where I can buy the toughest common cards in each vintage set from somebody who doesn't know what I know?

Good point Julen one could go about it that way.

The print would be much larger as opposed to looking at each sets pop report.

1992 Topps Mitch Webster, nearly impossible to find centered with 4 sharp corners!!!!

A PSA10 would sell for hundreds, if not four figures on Ebay.

As of now, only one lucky example has been graded at the Gem level.
