Aren't they hard to see, even with a 10x glass?

  • << <i>I haven't seen that one before, has it been attributed? What did you take your pictures with? I can't get my camera that close up. >>

I didn't see where it was attributed. I'm not so sure I want to 'dilute' the waters by adding another variety, so I'll let someone else send one in if they want to. Anyway, I couldn't get my camera close enough either, the pictures are w/a Dino Light microscope/camera.

Yes. As you can see, it's smaller than the finger tips on his hand.....

I find them simply because they are shiny and reflect the bright halogen lamp I'm using. Very small. I say toss, but I'll just keep them anyway.

I do not know about the WDDR-006/WDDO-002B (as I never found any)... I am assuming that these were in the late April boxes?

But I did get a (Very FEW) of the WDDR-007/WDDO-002A (2 in one roll, 4 in one roll, zero in 3 rolls) in my boxes dated 05/04... zero in 5 boxes dated 05/05 (although another member found some in 05/05 boxes)... and zero in the 5 bozex dated 05/01.

"Anyone know what the 9774 and 9883 mean?"

I've wondered the same thing. I assume it's the machine or operator number. Those are the only 2 numbers I've seen on all the boxes. Anyone else have a theory??

    Me too 6/09/09 number 9778.

    I'm guessing an employee number.

I'm seeing a slow down in Ebay sales. Key date boxes have all but disappeared.

Do you think the Mint is going to continue to sell LP2s after LP3 is released on 8/13 ?
  • They'll sell them until they run out, regardless of overlap.....is my guess.
  • pitbosspitboss Posts: 8,643 ✭✭✭

They can try to sell them but I doubt if there will be many takers.
  • Just a weird thought.....Has anyone opened up an LP1 box???? Pretty ballsy considering what they go for.......

Could be some interesting things in there!!!

I thought of that yesterday, I saw an auction for one already opened that went for like $38 or something like that.

Has anyone else found these combos? If so, same box dates?

    Thanks
  • Just went through my box dated 4/28 found three reverse die cracks located about four o'clock extending from the edge to the face of the

log. Also found three with doubled thumbs (don't have the ddr #'s in front of me) , found five with the spike jutting out between the

thumb and the forefinger (looks like a thorn with weak doubling along the thumb), and found four with die chips on the book edge.

will add pics later (scans, so don't expect the greatest)

I finally got up the nerve to open these. I had opened a box dated 4/30 with only four of the spike thumb type found. I also found today

three of these with red highlights. One has the Lincoln obverse with a good part of his beard colored red, another has a red blotch on the

side of Lincoln's head on the reverse, and finally the last has spots of red on the hammer, the log, his clothing, and on the book. These

are not like the typical spots that are prevelant on these pennies. Has anyone reported finding these before? I've read most of the threads

but don't recall anyone talking about those before.

  • I had a few that had red abrasion-like blotches but I ignored them as being damaged...

Does the die crack look like this? I have a bunch of these:

    image
  • The red blotches almost look painted on, not damaged to my eye. I was thinking that maybe the metals used in producing these somehow

didn't blend fully and the red "rose" (no pun intended) to the top when the planchets material was hardening. Just a guess though, kind

of interesting...I call them "bloody Lincolns". edited to add....yes, the die cracks are the same as your pics....first ones I've ever found...

I found some of this crack in 2 stages. The first stage shows only from the log to about half way to the rim. The die chips on the book are missing also.

How many boxes have you actually gone through?
  • two for me .... one dated 4/30 (4 wddr-004) and the other 4/28 (where I found the 3 wddr-002 and 5-004's and the 3 die crack reverse)

I'm going to have to re-examine these same coins to see if I missed anything (just went through the Wexler site (40 different errors?)

Wanting to buy up to 1000 boxes? That's their ad? I'm not familiar with CCE.
  • Buying 1 to 1000 boxes. So maybe buying even more than that.

Just over 30 with a few more to go. About 4 more dated 4/29 and 3 more dated 4/17 with 2 dated 4/22 left for me. The 4/17's and 4/28's were the ones I found the crack from the log and the early die version.

Why not just buy the on Ebay? Sure, it would take some work, but they're there for buying.

    That's a lot of boxes.
Who is CCE? Can anybody tell me?

  • << <i>Who is CCE? >>

Certified Coin Exchange. thats where the truly big boys play. The important part of CCE is the bulletins with buys and sells that scrolls for everything under the sun in coins. Before staring my own place I worked for someone else who was a member. You can really get a pulse on the market by watching which widgets and non widgets are being bought and sold.

These guys might be buying far more than that. Its too much work to buy 200 or more groups of 5 boxes and track who sent what etc. Much easier to get a smaller dealer to do the errand boy running and suck them up from a few bourse floors & local shops to put a group of a hundred or more boxes together. That guy will make a few hundred bucks for his work and a quick turnaround check.
I used to scour cce before a show and try to memorize the more common widgets and make a cheat sheet of stuff to buy & flip.
  • PapiPapi Posts: 1,189 ✭✭
Very interesting. Did they or do they have similar "buys" out for LP1s or just LP2s?
  • Didnt see any similar posts for lp1 but wasnt looking. Those dealers were buying misc stuff then those but no those dealers werent posting for other 2009 lincoln related stuff so they arent doing an alacart of lincoln stuff. Looks pretty cut and dried its a ddr promo push.
  • pitbosspitboss Posts: 8,643 ✭✭✭

How long do you figure before we find out anything on that?
  • Depends on how long it takes them to get a bulk order through anacs. Might already have the first bulk batch back by now. This might just be the "last grab while theyre cheap" thing. If theyre just getting going (I checked 7 days back and a few were bidding then) and say they just got a batch out I dunno.
How long does anacs take on a bulk sub? Never ran one through them.
  • pitbosspitboss Posts: 8,643 ✭✭✭

I just got one done in 21 days and got some great grades.

  • << <i>I just got one done in 21 days and got some great grades. >>

I'd guess anywhere from tommorow to maybe 4-5 weeks before the promo goes. Just a guess. Dont think they want to compete with the new design coming out, but with the way it was distributed at first errorwise, and the few weeks they took to decide to do it, they may have to. In the end if the new design comes out before the promo there wont be a problem unless the new one has something bigtime going on. Even then the promo will go on, but maybe not as heavily. Just enough thunder to cover their positions and a lil more then promote the new error in the 3rd series lincoln.
I love trying to figure out the "game" as its developing. Once its promoted it will take on a life of its own. Couple years I see at least 4 or 5 in the redbook along with the proof (which will coattail in due to the promo).
  • PapiPapi Posts: 1,189 ✭✭
    Who's running this promo?

  • << <i>Who's running this promo? >>

Dunno. I see a couple guys were buying boxes, but the end user is anyones guess. Maybe TV & maybe some guys who run big ads in numismatic news or coinworld.
  • Hi All,

What's the amount of the CCE offer? I've got 52 boxes of prime dates, mainly 4/27 and 4/29 and would be open to a quick profit.

    Thanks.

    FloridaBill
  • Think they were in the 22-23 range.

Seem to remember one at that level. The other I think was just under 20 or right around.
They were buying the whole gamut for one price. Didnt matter whether it was 4-21 or 4-29
