    Very Cool Proof !!

    I have the first 3 S-WDDRs, didn't get number 4

Talking about rarity; I'd have to think the proofs are since the number of strikes per die is relatively low.

    Anyone have 2009-S WDDR-004?
  • pitbosspitboss Posts: 8,643 ✭✭✭
I have one of the 001's but that is it. I had 2 but sold one for $500.

I have tested the waters on Ebay and have found that these, if sold raw, are not commanding any kind of a premium ... $3-$12 ea. ... hardly worth the effort of listing, shipping, FVF fees, etc. I just had my latest listing expire (have offered this package about four or five times with only one purchased - six errors Wddr-001, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 for $36.99 + free shipping) Some of the most interesting, most rare, and in-demand errors ($6 for a skeleton finger? and it didn't sell?) It was mind boggling to see these just languish on the market at that price. I tip my hat to Dengarasen ( a seller with a huge inventory and big presence on Ebay with slabbed and unslabbed formative cent errors that seems to be doing well overall) So I've folded up my tent and will sit on these until the day it's worth my time. I personally expected these to have taken a quantum leap in value by now. Until PCGS and NGC get on board with recognizing these on their slabs I'm afraid the naysayers are correct when they say that they will always be relegated to "curiosity" status and not "collectible" status. I may be forced to send in a few to Anacs but do not wish to do so. In the meantime, I am a fan of these personally, and believe still in the longterm possibilities.
    Good hunting to you all!
  • pitbosspitboss Posts: 8,643 ✭✭✭

I sent 80 in to Anacs early on when they were first found and did quite well with the first few selling in the $300 range. I still have 14 of the

WDDR 001 and 14 002's in MS67 but am not interested in giving them away at todays prices. I may send in 80 of the WDDR oo6's so I have

them when they finally do get popular but will just hold all the rest for a later date.

I went to the local B&M yesterday to get a copy of Coin World and Numismatic News; yeah I know I can get digital subscriptions, but I like the hard copy.

Anyway, I just moved to the area, and this was my first time in the shop. It was very busy, so I waited patiently. I overheard an elderly gentleman selling his coins for over $4k. I didn't get to see what he was selling, but I know it was silver, and he could have gotten more selling them himself.

I browsed around and ooo'd and ah'd at the expensive coins, and I noticed they had bank rolls for sale. So I bought two 2009 rolls; a .25 roll of D.C.-D quarters, hoping to strike it rich on that WAY COOL doubled die, and a roll of P-Formative Years Lincoln.

The rolls were both heads and tails, but I had left my glasses at home, and I couldn't really see the coins. I wouldn't have examined them too much there anyway, not wanting to tip them off to my treasure hunt. Most places, right now, are cashing in on the gold rush; so I don't think this one even has a clue, or cares, about 2009 DDRs.

Wow this is exciting, I thought, to get rolls with possible DDRs! I asked the price and took the gamble. I spent $22.50, plus tax of course, for $10.50 worth of possible treasure! I was psyched, a $14 gamble, less than I might spend on a few pulls of a slot machine and much more fun.

At this point I know the naysayers are going to tell me how insignificant the 2009's are and they're not really doubled dies; that's why the B&M didn't care to look themselves. Well, you can poo-poo in another post, this is my story.

I scurried home and immediately got to my examination. I put on my glasses and opened my D.C. quarters; I lined them all up and my hunt began. Dollar signs danced in my head as I started, and each coin was possible treasure. I wasn't at all disappointed as I passed by each coin without finding anything, but I never gave up the ship and held hope that the very last coin in the roll would be my reward. But not this time, the quarter DDRs were not to be found.

The I got to the pennies. I looked at the tail, this time with my glasses, and my eyes nearly bugged out. On the end of the roll was a WDDR-032. Jackpot! This is on Wexler's "Best Of" list for 2009, with a MS65 value of $20. I ran back to the store and bought the remaining 2 rolls. I opened a second, a H/H roll, and to my surprise I found a second DDR; WDDR-025 MS65 $50

I wound up with a total of 6 of each DDRs, book valued on the low end of $210. Not bad for my $13.50 penny roll expense.

Very image papi. Now see! How can the doubters say bad things about this series? I don't care what anybody thinks. This 2009 series of most well known cent, as well as the most famous "my opinion" president in America's history! Let's face it people, this 2009 series, is only going to get better! One day, hopefully, very soon, the "lincoln " error and/or variety, whatever one calls it. This will be profitable!image Oh yeah, just one more thing... Just take a look on the thread board. Look how many posts, this thread has received. Com'on guy's. Will let you jump on the band wagon! Good thread lasvegasteddy.image

So how much does ANACs charge to get these slabbed since PCGS or NGC will not to do it.
  • pitbosspitboss Posts: 8,643 ✭✭✭
The last I knew it was $10 but that was 3 years ago so you might want to check with them.

How much farther out in months is the new CPG? I will be the first one to say that it will not likely create immediate value for these but I do believe it can help to provide much needed structure for these varieties. I know that it can help the individual varieties the editors have selected because it can help narrow down the field of the many varieties out there and provide focus.

This was the response I received from Whitman Publishing when I inquired about the CPG update:

<< <i>Thank you for your reply. At this time, we do not have an updated version on our Pub schedule. I apologize for any inconvenience.

    Thanks

    Michelle >>

The 2009 update included Lincoln cents up to 2000, nine years behind at the time of print. Now it's 12 years behind. image

If publishing a physical book is that complex an undertaking; why not go digital?

PCGS & NGC refuse to grade these until the book is published, even though eight 2009 WDDRs have been assigned CPG numbers

Very frustrating image being forced into ANACS overgrading

I can see your frustration papi, Maybe if we all, write emails and {stone age} hand written letters to PCGS?image

It's worth a try but I doubt if it would do any good.

They would get tons of business if they did!

@ $24 per coin variety charge plus $14 for modern grading I doubt many would be sent to get a 64 or 65. PCGS is brutal on modern copper and if you believe you're going to get a bunch of 67's or 8's I have a bridge I'll sell you. Check the pop report. 2369 graded 66, 4 graded 67. I searched 25k+ of these coins and submitted maybe 15 of the best, got 66's and 5's. You're better off sending your best to ANACS to get their 67's or 68's (PCGS 65 or 66's in reality).

Neither company will grade these until they are published in the CPG. I've asked a dozen times.
  • pitbosspitboss Posts: 8,643 ✭✭✭

I have word from Whitman publishing that 6th edition of cherrypickers guide (6th edition) will be coming out next year and these coins will be

included. That should get these coins off of square one.

Did you see that full roll of WDDR 006 on ebay for $3750.00?

<< <i>Did you see that full roll of WDDR 006 on ebay for $3750.00? >>

single coins are selling for about $10 each on average. So, that leaves about $3,250 of stupid at that BIN.

I also thought that someone posted last year that these coins would be in a CPG that came out this year...

He's using Wexler's price guide, in the grade of MS65 ($75) as his multiplier, but his are raw

I agree; anyone listing 50 of any is foolish, or wants to get out of the biz.

It looks like the CPG is another year away; that's what I read.

Potter has these listed in 3rd addition of his book "Strike It Rich With Pocket Change", along with the CPG, Wexler, Coneca, and Potter numbers

I don't believe it -- contact the seller for verification...sometimes these sales aren't what they seem...

What this does is give us another year to get our coins together, grade our best ones, and get ready for whatever transpires. The CPG guide

will be out before we know it. This is going to be hot item eventually.

FYI there are plenty of coins in the CPG that nobody/not enough people care about to create a two way market. Careful with your grading budgets as it might be hard to get your monies back out

I think these WILL attract attention. None of the "fly speck" varieties were assigned numbers.

With ANACS at $10 grading and others pushing $40 I don't see much of a down situation with what these coins have cost me to own and what I

can get them for in a high grade.
  • BigABigA Posts: 2,715 ✭✭✭✭
I agree...the cost of grading is very reasonable. What was unreasonable was my sending in a gazillion (almost) for grading......a little discretion would have helped the pocketbook image
  • pitbosspitboss Posts: 8,643 ✭✭✭
I sent in 80 and got something like 34 or 36 67's ( I forget which) of which I still have 28. I got good money for the ones I sold.
  • PapiPapi Posts: 1,189 ✭✭

Does anyone know where the WDDR-016 was found; sets or bank rolls?

I am not positive but I believe those came out of bank rolls.

Well Papi, these 4/23 boxes are right up there again.
It was great looking back through this old thread.
