Do you tremble in morbid fear, or go into fits of rage, everytime Legend ...

. . .post a market report?

I find the reports interesting, and informative, as works that are a combination of non-fiction and fiction. I've only bought four or five coins from Legend Numismatics and they were nice coins at a fair price. However, I've never bought or sold a coin because of their analysis or opinion. I suppose their market reports may have a small, temporary influence on some sectors of the market, just my opinion.

To what extent do you fear, worry, rejoice or yawn because of their reports?

Just one report from one individual (especially in a series they are not affluent in) is not enough to make me worry, be fearful, etc.

Most Dealer to Collector communications are driven by some self centered promotion....but Legend I feel 'tells it like it is". If you as a collector are not one of e privilaged few who can sit down in person to have coffee and donuts with other dealers....theres no way you can be 'let in' on the current trends in the coin marketplace.

But like many predictions, it is capable of being either unfilfilled or self-fulfilled,

Fear the Legend reports? Not yet and probably never.
Rejoice over seeing their reports? "Rejoice" is much too strong of a word to describe my generally positive receptivity.
Yawn? No. Legend always has an interesting perspective well worthy of more than a yawn.
Fits of rage? No. Going into any fit of rage = you've taken something, whatever, much too seriously.
Criticize her reports? Only when an obvious absence of spell check and poor sentence construction force me to do image

As I said in another thread, I usually feel Laura is one who loves coins and has a genuine enthusiasm and passion for numismatics. I admire and respect her accomplishments.

I do not worry about what legend says one way or the other. I am sure they have the pulse on high end coins that cost over 5k. That is not the area i collect in. I am a bottom feeder, i collect in the trenches with the masses. I feel i know that area better than legend.

Be it coins, stocks, or real estate, it is very difficult for someone to be objective in a "report' when they sell the item they are reporting about.

I try to ignore Legend's comings and goings because I prefer to enjoy the hobby.

I have taken a peak at what they have in their cases at major shows (Baltimore and FUN), but never saw anything I could use. I pay big bucks mostly for early U.S. coins in AU and low end Unc., and they don't seem to stock much of that material.

In theory I should be fully supportive of their efforts to make the coin market open and honest, but in practice I'm just not their kind of collector on any level. It's sort of an oil and water thing.

In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

I have to agree. I would give it more thought if they were talking about what they specialize in (like patterns)

It is Mike Dudds that I fear now. He is the one pulling the strings behind the scenes at Legend.

The main reaction I have is one of cringing at the spelling errors. image

Seriously, though, I find them an informative read despite the aforementioned lack of "quality control."
