Wow! I love it! Beautiful! Inspiring and awesome!

My, those pills were very powerful.

I wish they would get rid of cents. But I fear that many folks can't handle the math.

The big "e pluribus unum" is very unattractive.

image and furthermore, when the half cents were discontinued in 1857, one half cent then is equivalent to 25 of the current cents. The value of a current cent is so small that stores GIVE THEM AWAY at the cash registers! They each cost well over a cent to make, they waste a lot of metal that could be used to make something productive, a lot of them are disposed into open fields or landfills, etc. Why don't we stop making cents???

And the Commission on Fine Arts strikes yet one more blow for simplistic and boring coin design!

    Way to go Guys! image

BTW, isn't depicting the United States Flag on a coin against flag protocol?

    wow

chose the most bland of th3 5 I've seen.

What happened to the choked wheat deisgn? That had more life than the flag design does.

The flag will probably look really lame on copper when you can't have different colors as is shown in the drawing. Oh well. Not sure why they have a 34 star flag either.

Either the shield or the eagle would be cooler. at least it's not a building though!!

I think it's obvious that the Commission needs a new name ................imageimage

OK, there is no excuse for not choosing that beautiful eagle design. image

Not a done deal yet. The CCAC (Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee) earlier recommended a shield design, and both proposed designs have been submitted to the Treasury Secretary. In my opinion, just about *anything* would be better than the flag design.

I believe the 34-star flag was current when Lincoln was in office.

So to the letter of the law the design is emblematic of Lincoln holding together the union. and, exactly that to the T. his refusal to remove the "conferate" stars.....OK so the law is met.

I dont know, Im not a fan of any of them. Id like to examine more civil war tokens and find suitable designs....I like this one, Just change the date area to ONE CENT

I'm with you Ben, I think that one would have looked good too.
imageQuid pro quo. Yes or no?
  • Say it aint so. That design stinks. Boring. The Eagle reverse is good and the Capitol bldg is ok too.
  • morgansforevermorgansforever Posts: 8,484 ✭✭✭✭✭
The capital bldg, looks too much like the commem.
The flag is just to generic.
The shield, imo, is the best design.
The eagle should be headon instead of a profile.
Just my opinion, guess we'll have to settle for the flagimage

Isn't "e pluribus unum" redundant with the the flag design anyway?

    Terrible choice.

The shield would have been so much better.

From the commission's choice its obvious they are in favor of discontinuing the cent as well.

Th rest of the government stopped making "sense" a long time ago. It is time for the Mint to catch up!image

So I guess had my suggestion of an aerial view of the Lincoln Memorial been in the running, the Commission for Absolute Crap... whoops, wrong acronym... Commission for Faux Art would have picked it.

If they want a flag design, why don't they just get an Old Navy flag t-shirt and use one of those.
  • I called it! Granted, it was ATS. When the four finalist designs were announced about 2 months ago, I said I liked the eagle the most, capitol building second, but that I expected they would choose the flag because it is the least-interesting and -artistic.

I hope this is a bad joke.

    No more designs by committee!!!

Can't the Mint afford to hire a decent artist/engraver?

I thought they were supposed to have some artistic infusion program? There is no art in that design, just mechanical.

    So what?

The way things are going the average citizen is going to be lucky if he or she ever sees any of theses coins.

The mint is issuing too much new stuff and my reactions, even as truly nutty coin collector are image and "Oh image not again."

wait, I though the shield was the one picked?!? I guess I should have known that was too good to be true. I truly believe that they post 4-5 concepts, read this board to see which is the least favorite and then use it. The flag one looks like an arcade token or a design that would be put on one of those suvenir stretched pennies.

All of those designs really have to stretch the imagination to be considered artistic IMO.
Sorry but if that is as good as they can do don't do it. We don't need the cent any more anyway.

............you may be right, Syl, but i think it's here to stay. in fact there's talk of a 'new' obverse design (see my other post) for 2010.
