LYKENS, Pa.—Pennsylvania State Police are looking for a man they say sweet-talked a shop owner into accepting a fake $20 coin as payment for ice cream.
State police said the man told the proprietor of Willow Tree Ice Cream on Friday evening that the coin was something the government has just begun issuing.
The shop is located about 25 miles northeast of Harrisburg in Dauphin County.
The suspect drove away in a teal-colored Dodge Caravan with Pennsylvania tags. He's described as short and stocky with curly black hair.

I don't know if it is general ignorance or a lack of caring, but when the Pres. Dollars came out I had a merchant not want to take them. Recently a teenager at a fast food place thought my $2.00 bill was counterfeit and no one seems to know anything about the new pennies, I show them to people and they are shocked and often ask why they didn't hear about it.
I wonder if this particular shop owner figured it was another coin he had not heard about. I am also curious what this thing was made of and looked like. I love all the recent modern commems and releases but it does make you wonder if the mint is making to much new stuff or if they just need to get the word out more.

LOL, hahaha, wouldn't that be funny if the actual people being duped are the cops who didn't check it out? Maybe it was some excentric rich guy being nice.

Why ice cream, I wonder?
As for the goofy teens at the sales counter, honestly, one second they’re sporting $10,000 worth of radio transmission equipment and wearing a paper hat, the next second… they have transformed themselves into an US Treasury Officer when I hand them a $100 bill… inspecting it as a possible forgery, meretriciously holding it to the light, then finally declaring it certified. Afterwards they pick their nose, hand me the wrong order, and forget to give me my change.
You’d expect them to understand new currency and coins!?!?!
I would make the argument that he made a trade of a coin/medallion novelty for an ice cream cone.
