I don't think there's a problem with correcting a mistake by the employee regarding the mint set vs proof set issue. BUT:
If I owned a shop and you requested to purchase cameo coins out of a set and replace them with non cameo coins, I'd throw you out on your arse. At least offer to buy the entire package and dispose of it as you see fit after picking out your desired coins.
I have asked many shop owners if I could switch and purchase Cameos out of proof sets and replace them with brilliant examples of the same coins. Of course I do not ask someone this if they do not know me well or at all.
Many shop owners have said no, buy the set as a whole. When they have told me that, I either buy the set as a whole, or pass. None have ever gotten upset and threatened to throw me out (probably because I am a repeat customer that they have a good relationship with).
Some shop owners have said yes, provided that they see and approve the replacement coin and provided that we can agree on a price for the coin I want to acquire.
You just never know what someone will say unless you ask. You do have to be careful on the when, where, what and who you ask.

OK - it was not clear to me originally that you were offering a premium for the coin you were acquiring. That is completely different.
Sanction, I want to thank you on behalf of the employee for the PRO BONO work you did and saved that shop from potential litigation for impersonating a knowledgable coin shop and misrepresenting what they were selling.
I would venture a guess that you bill at $3.00 to $5.00 per minute -- 6 minutes min.
You have done another good turn for the legal profession.
I have cherrypicked the combo coin and jewelry shop before. I retract "many, many times" from my prior comment.
Interesting how no one has stated what price they thought I should have paid for the proof set; nor has anyone stated how much they would be willing to pay me to purchase the raw cameo half? >>
I would have done what you did. BUT WHOAH BETIDE THEE OH AGENT OF SATAN! You did great. There is no guilt herer as making a great sale or purchase is part of the hobby. I do identify with being called names and just do not be surprised if you are judged into the abyss for doing nothing wrong
AND AS PREDICTED...your usual suspects are here now.

BTW the B&M is a combo coin and jewelry shop where they "buy low", "sell high" and do not have extensive knowledge about coins. I have cherrypicked them many, many times. I was there a few months ago and saw them buy junk silver at 6x face when other places were paying 10x face or more. So I figure they should rightfully be cherrypicked.
Am I missing something here? If you want to continue cherrypicking them in the future, I wouldn't be trying to educate them by haggling over 5 coins out of the set. You will be raising too many questions by getting picky. They'll start putting one and one together why you only want the pretty frosted coins. Get my drift? Just buy the entire set if you stand to come out ahead anyway.

The more qualities observed in a coin, the more desirable that coin becomes!

Well said and I agree. However, as noted by another poster, he went into a coin shop. And as posted by another, we all haggle over price.
