The year mint mark is on the reed/edge.. Pretty weird.. I got 4 back in change at the US Mint on 9th street this morning.

No longer the Sac $ but "Native American" $1 coin.

Lots of folks have known about this YaHa and personally, I think its a silly idea! I can't help but wonder how many Dansco sets there will be out there with all the holes filled with all the wrong dates and mints.

From a coin collecting standpoint, this does not bode well for collecting a single coin for each year from each mint as they all look the same on the obverse just like the presidential dollars. Unless you are familiar with the particular president of NA coin, you just cannot tell which year it was produced!

I expect the popularity of both the coin series to seriously wane over the years due to the fact that "validation of difference" requires being able to see the edge which, unless Dansco comes up with inert clear pages, will be impossible in the future.
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

You bring up some great points that I never thought about, that dansco thing will be a fiasco. They need to come up with an edge view album page. image

I don't think it would be that difficult if they use something like what the mint uses with the uncirculated sets but looking at the edges will still be a challenge!

I think edge lettering could be cool (put the denomination there and some other wording) but do NOT put the year/mintmark there for reasons stated.
Totally moronic. Thank you congress (not like they had anything better to do...like notice the recession was occuring starting a few years ago) and thank you Moy and the USMint for not putting up a fight or working to change parts of it instead of just blindly going along with it.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

Nope, the dates will be correct because the reverses can be matched to date. The mintmark will be the main screwup. I have considered how easy it would be to do that myself but my anal-retentive disorder won;t let me.

Good point except the obverse/reverse will only be known by folks that already collect the coins and does nothing for those that begin the series in a couple of years. As it is right now, I personally have a difficult time remembering which presidential dollar was produced in which year and we are only into the 3rd year. Imagine the confusion when the series gets into the lessor know presidents in about 4 years? Even then, you'll always have to pull out some reference book just to find out what year it WAS produced.

As for the NA dollars, 4 of 5 years from now folks will experience the same thing as the reverses change and the familiarity wanes.

I don't think it was a smart decision to make unless you are trying to discourage folks from collecting them. But...........without the collectors, literally nobody would have any!

    Whatever....
