The 1876-CC twenty cent piece brought only $460k total - that's around a six figure loss for the consignor. The days of automatic increases for classic rarities appears to be over.

Ouch, I wonder if a dealer bought it with intensions of a large markup?

I was the underbidder. I figured at a little over $400k it was a decent buy.

How do you figure? If the consignor got less than 100% hammer i'd be shocked! Probably closer to 105% to 110% if the consignor knew what they were doing, especially considering the size of the consignment and the number of 'dream' coins. Consignor probably lost ~$350k to $400k if i had to guess, still not chump change! Ouch!
