Thinking about bidding...

I haven't bought anything in a while but I've had my eye on this- Link
It's a decent chunk of change and I may not even win at my snipe, but I was wondering if you guys saw any red flags that I might have missed. The guy hasn't really sold anything and has very little recent feedback.

I have no idea of how much those go for, but ....

<< <i>Well, if you haven't heard, the reason Beckett and PSA were not grading these issues is because.....they were reprinted with the original plates a few years after the original release making it virtually impossible to tell the difference. Beckett has recently turned the other cheek and graded a huge collection from a reputable individual that had a hoard of original Star sets. That opened the door for everyone else to grade what they had. Star basketball hasn't really taken off(as far as grading) the way it had in the nineties due to the above reason. I'd ask for provenance and wish you luck with your purchase. >>
From my understanding only a few certain sets were reprinted and a few "new" ones were made which were claimed to be undiscovered at the time.. I never heard of this set being reprinted "from the original plates" anybody else got any input??
As far as Beckett grading them they have a list of certain sets and years they won't grade I'm guessing for these very problems, Steve Taft was or is working with them when they made the decision to grade the Star. Co stuff
Lee, If you win it good luck that always been a card I wanted..

They did not reprint the regular issue Star base sets. They reprinted some of the oddball all star and gatorade sets. Actually reprinted isn't the correct term because the sets they printed in the 90s were actually new sets that were not available in the 80s. It would be like if Topps printed a 1998 Desert Shield set today.
There are a ton of Jordan counterfeits floating around, but they did not counterfeit the entire Bulls team set. It will be fairly easy to tell whether the Jordan is legit or not based on how it looks compared to the rest of the Bulls set. Centering, color and wear should be consistent throughout the set. I can slide the cards around in the bag a little to see if this is the case. To pull off this scam, a person would have to have bought a legit Bulls team set, removed the Jordan, counterfeited a Jordan that looks like the rest of the Bulls cards, recreated a plastic baggy and make it look like it has 25 years worth of wear, and had the foresight ding a corner of the Jordan to make it seem even more legit. I just don't see it happening but I suppose it's possible.
Anyway, I won at a really great price (snipe was at $1750) and should have the cards soon. I'll let y'all know how it looks.

I was going to buy diapers and baby food for my kid once he's born, but I thought having this card was more important.
Like I said I have never heard of this specific set having any additional runs made...If there were I imagine there would be alot more of these up on ebay.. The ones that were created also have a different baggie that one can tell apart from the original...

I used 1987 Topps wrappers for diapers when my son was a baby. The gum was nutritious too. He has a funny twitch now but other than that it worked out well.
