    Actually, I believe it was the mercury used in processing felt in the 19th Century that caused hatters to go mad.

    Actually, the term mad hatter was a term for Mercury vapor poisoning. Mercury was used in the hat making process in the Victorian era. That how the term came to be in Alice in Wonderland, the story of the queen.imageMad Hatter syndrome
