total newbie wants to start detecting

dont know anything about detecting, but am dying to learn. i live in south FL - Palm Beach Gardens. would like to buy a used quality detector.

what advice would you give to getting started?

anything you can share is greatly appreciated.

    Hello and welcome.
    There are several points I can offer (I used to live in W. Palm Beach by the way). First, in your area, I would recommend beach hunting. Second, buy a detector that can hunt both dry and wet sand.. even water if you can afford it. Third, What is your price range? I can better recommend a machine if I know that. Fourth, you will need accessories... i.e. scoop, pouch, etc. Fifth, there is an excellent forum for MD'rs that has a ton of good information and friendly people... www.metaldetectingforum.com I suggest you join that group as well (free).

    great! i got the bug so bad i am just getting this thing today, i can always upgrade in coming weeks/months if needed. thanks for the tip - i am going to do just that tonite when i get home.
