1989 and 1991... The guys that run the shop I go to our more like friends than anything, well more like 2 extra fathers... They are great guys and I wouldn't have near the coins I have if it weren't for them... neither would Coen!!
When you asked what dates I pulled them out to make sure I had the right ones. When I look at them I'm almost inclined to say that the 91 is a proof... When compared to the the 89 it has a much sharper strike and luster to the coin. Not much price difference between the proof and non proof, but Krause shows the mintage on the 91 proof as 3,500. Also, does anyone else's Krause not show the 1989 5 Yuan gold panda in it? Mine skips from 88 to 90....

The 1991 "proof" would have a P in a circle on it. However, alot (if not most) of the UNCs are prooflike because of the high quality of the coins and the low mintage numbers (fresher dies). Is the 1991 sealed in original plastic? Still need that coin for my set.
Neither are in plastic. They reside in 2x2's right now.. The 1989 is not in plastic because the owner of it was going to send it in for grading and thought it would be better to remove it and place it in a hard plastic holder to send in....but alas... never sent it and only placed it in a 2x2. I have no idea why the 1991 is in a 2x2. I did look at the coin and did not see a "P" in a circle so it isn't proof. You are right about the quality of the coin looking prooflike though!
