Okay, for the sake of argument, I'm including gold & silver as a category, and a couple other asset classes.
The scenario is exactly as stated: the world economy goes down the toilet - which pretty much implies that most international trade stops, shortages start to develop, and not everyone can buy what they need.
What do you want to own (in terms of assets) when this happens? Guns & ammo are not figured as financial assets and are not included.

yards.. or what we are seeing right now just a bit worse. Not quite
the great depression standard but getting close to it with higher unemployment?
I assumed you meant what we have right now but slightly worse and choose the dollar. I want something liquid to pick up assets that will rebound
once the cycle flips the other way.

See above. <<most international trade stops, shortages start to develop, and not everyone can buy what they need.>>
I can't predict what people might do. Just make your own assumptions what will happen if trade stops, shortages start to develop, and not everyone can buy what they need, because that's pretty much what will happen if "the world economy goes down the toilet."
I knew it would happen.
edit...oh ..!!...I wasn't supposed to use that.....ooopppss..

Sounds like the Great Depression. Back then people were asking Brother can you spare a dime. So if people wanted dimes then they probably would want dimes the next time around. So I voted for the dollar which is like 10 dimes.

It was a hard choice, but went with Ag and Au. If Yap money was a choice that might have been hard to pass up.

I'm still trying to get an accurate picture of life where the currency has collapsed.
Ya, I've got guns, ammo, and a Dillion press, but that's not knowlegde.

So your vote is for silver since the dime was silver back in the day.....
"The Mel Gibson's Road Warrior or Orwell's 1984" would be the more logical outcome.
I am surprised how many said the dollar though. Good social studies student I'll wager.

Folks worried about the roving bands likely are mistaken.
We saw what the peasants did in Katrina. They mostly ran to
the stadium and turned on each other. I don't know of ONE
rich guy that got caught in the mix.

Sounds like you want to start a cult.
