Figured I would start a league. There are 16 teams allowed and I am running it through Yahoo.com. It is a head to head with playoffs and a live draft
the league name is
09 CU Baseball
ID#234381
the password is
psa
If anyone has any suggestions for settings let me know.
Also, not sure how it was done in the past but I would love to hear some sort of prizing structure. involving cards (not cash)
***I do ask that anyone that joins uses there CU username as their team name. This way we all know who is who. Also, only join if you are interested in playing the whole season (as we don't want people giving up half way).
thanks

if we can't find 16 teams of truly interested teams we may have to change this to 12.

EDIT: Crap, I just read the thing about using our screen name as a team name. Is that still a rule? I can change it if necessary.
For those who have joined under a different name if you could change it that would be great.
This will make it easier for everyone in the pool and at the end when it comes to prizing if we have any.
Thanks

Not sure about the settings - are those all the default settings? I've only played in 1 H2H baseball league before.
One recommendation I have would be to consider limiting the # of teams to either 12 or 14. The only reason I say this is because once you get too deep, the waiver wire pool becomes so shallow that the available players are pretty crappy. On one hand, going beyond say 10 teams makes it more challenging because a star player will not be readily available. On the other hand, if you make the available pool so shallow, a major injury to a top draft pick may eliminate you from playoff contention early on. Then it becomes more about luck than anything else.
Edited to add: Thanks for setting this league up Mathew!
BTW: Cubby=Cub Fan
Signed up. Thx. Let me know what I owe, as I assume my team will suck.

I think I can make that time.

well I think you're going to need to extend the rosters...I see no bench slots...normally the most basic leagues have at least 22-23 roster spots. I think I counted 17 roster spots there. Also might want to add 2 DL spots too. For categories, I would suggest dumping 2B & 3B and flipping those for OBP% and SL% or BB and OPS...and on the pitching side lose Losses for holds. Holds suck and are flighty but it helps to promote using RP that aren't closers and prevents people from loading up on SP. A 7 IP minimum is also too low, probably should be at least 20 IP per week.
If this league gets filled and enough people are interested I'll set up a ROTO style league...just a basic 12 team 6x6 with OPS or OBP and holds as the extra categories.
never played in any leagues bigger than 14. the draft will be LONG lol
balance on both sides. 7 hitting, 7 pitching.
also you need to expand the rosters and have a sizable bench.

As above I already have the 2DL spots and 5 bench spots. I like the idea of holds compared to loses and increasing the innings pitched so I have made those. I also like the OBP and SL so that has been changed.

I am all for a larger group as it makes the draft deeper and challenging.
let me know if anyone is strongly against it in the next 12 hours or so and if not I will send invites to both of the above members.

also to discuss prizing if we want to.

If we do the cash thing, we must collect ASAP, so that way we avoid chasing people down after the season.
<< <i>IF we do anything at all, I'd vote for either a decent PSA card, or paypal $10 to the Commish (keeping it friendly). Just an opinion.

$10 would be good. How would we do the break down for the winner or winners?
50% to 1st ($80)
30% to 2nd ($48)
20% to 3rd ($32)
?

"It was brought up that prizing might be fun.
I have talked to JC (Jeffcbay) and we think that $10 each would keep it honest and interesting and the prizing would go like this.
50% to 1st
30% to 2nd
20% to 3rd
Please cast your vote by emailing me.
If it is a go we can figure out how to handle the money.
It will be done with Paypal and it can either be sent to me or we can choose as a group who will hold the cash.
We would need to decide soon as it would be best to collect the money be fore the season starts.

Also, do we have a draft order yet or does Yahoo randomly select it at the time of draft?
LSU - Yahoo has a draft order that you can adjust to your preference.
Joe
you can pre rank your players if your not going to be at the draft.
given that there are 16 teams i hope half of you dont show because the draft will take 5 hours lol
