I hear that eBay wants to move from the format that made it (auction) to take market share from Amazon. Basically, just another closed-box seller. Well, all things must pass.

Going out of business? Hmmm, I suppose you could say that but that's not what I meant.

I was just browsing around and saw many nive things from favorite sellert - ZERO BIDS!

To think! They actually hired & PAID people to kill the site in the end.

I don't know about you but I call that just plain stupid.

That ole saying - "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" rings true as well.

They NEVER should have taken on the role of some tyrannical dictator.

Kill the mules (sellers) and the cart won't move - but for 1 exception!

The CEO, Donahoe, met with Wall St. yesterday with a new plan to boost eBay stock. Amazon's gone up and eBay's gone down. Plan: get like Amazon. It, I suspect , will get more difficult and costly to auction, until we phase ourselves out of the model.

The new model and ridiculous rules leaving sellers both vulnerable & powerless together with being
MADE to accept PayPal ONLY, not only broke the camels' backs but his legs too! Such a shame. NOT!image

I've already been phasing out pretty much as a seller there ever since the last round of higher fees, etc.

Stopped cold turkey 2nd week of January and don't miss it a bit.

I DID make an attempt to list 4 PCGS coins and for the 1st time in almost 6 yrs -
ebay pulled my listings because despite saying that I accept and encourage
payment thru PayPal - I went on to say that if you should wish to pay by
some other method, contact me first.

What I SHOULD have said is BEFORE bidding, IF you are thinking of paying in
any manner other than PayPal you NEED to contact me prior to bidding.

My bad, tehnically but it irked me so that it may have sealed the deal. image

No, No, let them fail. Just like GM, AIG etc. Let them go down the toilet where they belong. And don't worry about it, they will be replaced with something far better.

Natural market forces at work, while we still have an environment for those forces to work. If ebay does structurally change from an auction-style format, that will open a wide vacuum for an auction-style entrepeneur to fill the void. That would be nice.

    Boom...we win.

It always amazes me, how many sellers blame eBay for pulling their listings, after they have tried to circumvent or violate the selling policies.

Suggest you read up on eBay's selling policy before you try to list something.

Yes, you must remove references to prohibited payment methods from your templates and item descriptions. This will not be done automatically. If prohibited payment methods are included in your item description, your listing will be in violation of the new Accepted Payments Policy and, as of January 15, 2009, may be removed from eBay."

I agree that retail business is down across the entire world but I would not agree eBay is kaput. It is very unlikely to change the way they let you list items as long as policies that protect their business and foster income through pay pal are adhered to. Some people go with the flow and others like to swim upstream and die.

For me, Ebay has not been a profitable venue to sell coins in the last 5 years. Rarely do I place anything for sale on Ebay. With the number of scammers listing coins and the number of home made slabbing companies, a nice coin is hard to sell at a reasonable price. People do not take into consideration a coin graded MS70 by XYZ Coin Grading they purchased for $4.95 is nowhere near what a true MS70 graded by a respectable grading service would cost and the quality is actually XF45 cleaned.

    I don't see a difference

forcing us to take PayPal is what eBay is using to drive growth.

CNBC mentioned something about eBay and that eBay gave some estimate for PayPal's growth.

Interesting they didn't say much abut eBay's growth

ob coins - eBay is still the place many are flipping hot now mint coins.

I haven't bought or sold on ebay since October. Their policies and practices are counter-productive for me.

I must need to wake up better in the morning...the reports I heard this morning indicated Ebay was seriously considering going back to its roots...more focus on used goods and cheaper fees, etc.

I took it to mean the general feelings on this board (at least as I perceive them) are finally being listened to by the EBWG's (Ebay Big Wigs). I actually took it as a positive that MIGHT have me going back...

In today's Wall Street Journal there is a front page, above the fold story about eBay. It makes no mention of seller or buyer disatisfaction which is what I was hoping to see. Basically it said eBay would return to its roots and Paypal would drive new revenue/profits. Not a very informative piece and they seemed to place blame on Meg Whitman for current problems which I found to be astounding! The current idiots running the place are running it into the ground with the changes they keep shoving down peoples throats.

Thank you John Donahoe. It sounds like a technicality to me, not an attempt to "circumvent or violate the selling policies". Ebay is forcing sellers to use Paypal exclusively for obvious reasons, but cases like this border on ridiculous.
