Is it just ettiquete, or is there some other reason?

Why do many, if not most dealers remove the ask price of an item on their website when it has sold even though the listing and photo remain? Is there a reason why they do not leave the realized price up along with the other stuff? Or is there a reason why they dont just remove the whole enchilada when the coin has sold?

i would guess they remove the price but not the pictures in case
the coin comes back on a return. Much easier to relist it i suppose.

As for not removing the pictures due to the chance of a return people
can still aquire about it in the meantime in case it comes back and the
dealer has some future leads.

Also if it comes back and the buyer gives a darn good reason.. the
dealer can rethink his/her asking price.

things like that i suppose.

FC....that explains why they dont remove the photos/descriptions. But why do they remove the price and replace with "sold", rather than leaving the price up and putting the word "sold" next to it?

i normally see "on hold".. not sold. I think they take down the price
to keep things private for the possible person who bought it. They
are not an auction site that has the desire to keep archives. It is
up to them to decide what should stay private once the deal is in
the making.

It's easier when editing the listing to replace the price with the word "sold", then to add a new location for the word "sold."

Now that is a possibility, but it doesnt explain why people do this same thing on the BST here. It would be very easy to just add "SOLD" next to the price the person was asking.

If a coin is sold to another dealer, they don't want the price advertised (any more than it already has been).

Actually I see the price and pics left very often, Esp on currency dealer sites. When I sell something I remove the price as courtesy to the buyer. Maybe they don't want everyone to know what they paid when they go to resell.

i would not consider the poster to be a groupie. it is a rare occasion
that someone here actually agrees with me ;-) if it happens again this year
we will have to revisit this discussion.

I really like to go to a couple of dealers websites and click on an item to see that it is still sold even after a couple of years. They must have a very long return policy.
