It would be interesting to see the die and press used to mint those. I wonder how many strikes and at what pressure it took.
The ultimate pocket piece for one of you
<< <i>I would love to see the slab that one goes into!!! >>
Beat me to it! I wonder if PCGS would design a custom slab for this coin if someone who did own one asked? That would be quite a chunk of plastic, and hard to grade too I suppose with all of that surface area.
I mean, its not like you could just whip this thing out to show to your dinner guests!
Perhaps the bankers of the world that are buying up all the gold should consider this one? After all with gold about to "go through the roof" and all.............
The name is LEE!
<< <i>Thats a fairly impressive piece but destined for some expensive storage facility!

220 pounds of bling would look good in the WhiteHouse , if you asked me.
Maybe the U.S. Treasury could purchase it and make some UHRs. for us poor folk.
Let's put this on the ballot
I'll bet "We the People" would vote to own it.
"The 100-kg, 99999 pure gold bullion coin with a $1 million face value was originally conceived as a unique showpiece to promote the RCM's new line of 99999 pure one-ounce Gold Maple Leaf bullion coins. After several interested buyers came forward, the RCM decided to make a very limited quantity available for sale."
This was back in May of 2007.
The name is LEE!
IMO they would be lucky to get 3%.
<< <i>BTW, how many of these were made? According to the RCM:

I believe it was cast.
Teletrade had one for sale a few years ago, and I don't think it sold. I wonder if this is the same specimen. 5% over spot is a lot of juice on $3 million in bullion.

<< <i>Teletrade offered one in 2007. There's a cool photo of Ian Russell holding a "tiny" one-ounce Maple Leaf near the monster 100 kilo coin. The photo was taken (by me) at a Brink's facility in Los Angeles. Notice the nearby armed guards. >>
[Insert wisecrack about the guard being for Donn rather than the gold here.]

No need to slab it. Just use a counterstamp to verify its gold content.
Thought I'd jump in and answer a few questions.

How does using a counterstamp verify a coin's gold content?
