Who manufactures the generic silver rounds and bars?

Who manufactures all of those generic silver rounds and bars? The ones that say .9999 pure on them? With an american eagle, or bison , etc., on them?

If it is a major refiner like the name brand outfits.... why do they even mint these? Especially since if they just put their own brand on them, they can sell them for even more premium?

If the generics are made by 'unknown' refiners..... then how can we even be sure that they are pure silver? It is easy to put .9999 on the bar.... but if one does not know where it was made, what kind of assurance does one have that it is in fact .9999 pure...... and not .91 pure? Can you yourself tell the difference between a bar of pure silver and sterling silver?

With all of the other scams that seem to be going on now a days, it would not surprise me if sometime in the future it is discovered that some of these generics are in fact... lesser percentage than what is professed.

The reason I ask is because I see that Apmex has some bars listed that have a Morgan silver dollar stamped on them. Neat looking item.. but got me wondering just where these do come from. Perhaps a foreign refiner?

I've often wondered the same thing. I think the spread in premium between, let's say, (1) Engelhard bars versus (2) generic silver rounds is partly because with # (2) you're just not 100% sure of what you're getting.

By your description, it sounds like product from the Silvertowne Mint.
