A point here on the side. Maybe this Mets71 is not hogging up cards to keep someone else from getting them but as an investment. I own several low population coins of the same date and mint mark just because they are inexpensive. They also, in my opinion, have potential. At my age I will never see it but that's why I bought them. Now my card collection is a different thing. Saving them for a really cold winter and at least I won't freeze. They will burn. Whatelse does one do with 86 through 91 cards.

Al has bought from me before. Always a money order within about 15 days. I've actually shipped to him before the money had arrived. Believe me...he's good for it.

Normally he will buy high end stuff; but he has also bought multiple copies of some real average stuff. If I had to give my best guess: he is going to land on the registry all at once with like 5 PSA 8 and above 1971 sets or something like that along with multiple sets of other years. His collection and I'm assuming he's keeping the cards must be enormous.

He is absolutely good for the hobby. The hobby needs big spenders especially now with the economy as bad as it is.

Yes - this is the real Mets-71 and I have decided to come out of obscurity and join this forum. I am not really sure why I am a worthy topic for this board. I find some of the posts attributed to me quite amusing, especially some of the legendary prices I paid for some cards, especially the 71 Topps. Some of it is not true. Nevertheless, I am quite active in the hobby both within the Ebay community and a great bunch of dealers and collectors across the country. I hope that the collecting community continues to expand. As you can see from my recent postings on the Set Registry, I have started listing some of the cards I have collected. I hope to put the rest of the collection up as time permits. Yes - I do have multiples of some cards! I hope to do deals with some as things move forward. I am looking to finish my sets on of these days. Some have suggested on this forum that I am some sort of Machiavellian tycoon trying to corner the market on a certain cards. I don't see things that way. High grade vintage cards to me are tangible minaiture works of art.

    Thanks,

    Alan

We have done a few deals and they always are the smoothest by far.

Hi and welcome to the forums.

    Good for you.

    Al,
If you won't mind telling me what cards in what grades you collect, I will try selling them to you offline at the highest possible price. If you prefer online auctions, please tell me what your snipes will be so I can tell my brother Norma to set his just below it. Either way, you get your card and I get rich and retire and eat pulled-pork sandwiches.

    Are you ok with this?

Good to see you. Always nice to have major collectors around the board.
  • Thanks to all for the very positive welcome! I have been reading the boards every now and then and have found many of postings useful and often entertaining. In case anyone is wondering, I am focusing on finishing my 52 Topps set and 71 OPC baseball, both in "8" or better. 71 OPC has been an extreme challenge but thoroughly enjoying. Always looking for high grade 71 opc's and I have reveled in the challenge of locating these cards. I am about 16 cards from finishing my basic 52 topps set. A bunch of the cards I have are already registered in other sets. Just haven't had the time to scan and send in. Looking for a 1952 Topps #140 Antonelli. For some reason, this card has been tough to locate.

Again, thanks to al those for the welcome!

  • Must be something about that name Alan.

There is an Alan who collects Bobby Orr, Havlicheck, Yaz, and Staubach only. Guy just refuses to lose on the cards he wants.
He bids 8,000.00 on 800.00 cards.

  • Not me.

Alan-Any chance you can share some pics of your historic collection?
  • Wanted to revisit this thread because Mets-71 continues to "knock the ball out of the park".

This guy is on a cardboard mission !

    Alan,
If you're still reading, did you finish your 71 opc baseball set yet ?

    Alan,

Welcome to the Jungle! image on completing your '52 Topps and '71 OPC set. Would love to see some of them, if you don't mind.

  • I recently bid on a card I really, really, REALLY wanted with less than 10 seconds left in the auction. I distinctly remember thinking just before I hit CONFIRM BID, "God, I hope Mets-71 doesn't want this card."
