Slipping fast on IKES

The IKE registry is getting pretty competitive. 45 sets registered and most of them complete. Some of the incomplete sets have a chance to break the top ten (which is not an easy task in this collection). Participants are regularly updating their set.
It's a fun set to collect with enough variety and coins for every budget!

Endo, ???? This is an incorrect statement.
Pontiacinf, Hey, let us know what you have to sell.

Who said IKES were boring? I see the same thing happening to Kennedies in the future (it would be more dramatic if they decide to retire the series)

Edited for Emotions
You're freaking me out. Time to break out the calculator.
Ok, the best Ike set possible with one coin taken away would
rate: 63.85 (31st place)
The "average nice set" (the set you could put together right before
things get REAL expensive, aka My Set) with one coin missing would
be 63.19 (Hey 31st place)
It's possible I've made a small mistake in my haste but my figures
are right in the ballpark.
On to someone knocking me out of the top 10. If one of the people
in Current Finest tied for seventh upgraded, he would be in seventh
alone and there would be five of us tied for eighth. It would take
three more people upgrading (a total of 4) to knock me out of the
top 10.
Endo, don't do that to me before I have my coffee, OK?
-Keith H
ps I don't think I'm in good shape either
Edit because my spelling stinks.
You're absolutely right. My math was off.
Anyway, its just interesting to watch the IKE chase. I'm trying to upgrade my coins by submitting them, but I may have to cheat a few times here and there. I've got to do something about my silver biz IKES.
Have fun, all you IKEsters out there.

What are you moving on to?
-Keith H
It appears to have slowed down in the past month as you do not see many new folks entering or other folks moving up 3 or 4 positions (or 0.20 to 0.30 points) at one time.
I guess once you get close to 66 points (65.90 to 66.10) each improvement (usually 0.04 or 0.05 will cost you at least $300 to $500; improvements after that will probably cost you $700 to $1,000, next set of improvements are in the $2,000+ range). At that point, you would be at the top 10 or 7th which gets crowded. My goal is to be one spot before the group of 7 by the end of this year. However, I fully expect one or two unannounced new entries to come into the top 5 pushing me down again.
Still, I love that series !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love Ike dollars and all other dollar series !!!
I also love Major Circulation Strike Type Sets, clad Washingtons ('65 to '98) and key date coins !!!!!
If ignorance is bliss, shouldn't we have more happy people ??
I consider your set the "benchmark" set. MS 66 and above for this series is a solid acheivement.
With more interest in this series, someone should consider a "club" for its collectors. A quarterly newsletter would be neat. Right now, Jim Barlow's list is my only "IKE" publication in print that I get.
Endo
Appreciate the kind words. I actually started my set back in late 98/early 99 and became serious in early 2000 so it has not busted my bank account yet (though I am looking to splurge on 2 or 3 pieces).
I think you have a good idea regarding a newsletter. I too get Jim Barlow's and I used to get Jeff Saltzman's somewhat regularly, but he had health problems and it stopped. Jeff is now back and getting active. In fact, he even purchased a 71d in MS66 about a month or so ago from me on eBay and we talked a little. Both of those folks are strong Ike specialists and they have done an excellent job "hanging in there" in that "niche" market, as Ike specialists when other folks (dealers) would sneer and think they were crazy. SO I have to hand it to them. Supercoin has also been a good one along the way as well.
Perhaps we can start another thread to see how many folks would be interested in an Ike club and solicit input/feedback on content, meetings/instant messenger discussions, etc etc.
What do you think ??

I would be willing to help, but it will take quite a few to make this thing work.

Just a thought.

Vin,
O.K., I took the initiative and posted an initial message for the Ike club. I assume you are both still interested (in joining and making it happen).
Of course, in today's world, especially in coin collecting and computers you need TLAs (three-letter-acronyms) as a name. I came up with a FLA (five-letter-acronym) National Ike Coin Collecting Enthusiasts (NICCE) ... ok, I am done, it is now your turn as I would like to resign from all activities now that I came up with a name.

I'd also be interested ; presently at # 30 , and have really been slack the past few months about trying to upgrade these , but I really like the coin. I've been busy working on some Silver Eagle and SBA sets , but am about as high as I can afford to go on these , so need to get back to work on the Ikes. Let me know if I can do anything.
Howie
Welcome, perhaps you can help the club collect and organize everyone's e-Mail addresses (for the newsletter and special events). I will PM folks and ask them to do that to you if you think that will be ok for you.
Let me know.
Thanks,
Chris

This thread brings back good memories of when the Registry was kind of in its infancy.

Sadly more and more proof 70 DCAM's are coming down the pike which has all but made the basic IKE proof sets easy to complete. And to think I paid upwards for $4,000 a piece for some of them that are now easily obtained for $350 or so................... :-(
I have a proof 69 set, maybe it’s time to look for one or two of those 70s for my set.
I know your guys pain.
While I do not collect Ikes, I suffer from the having to upgrade my Kennedy sets at some serious costs.
To do so, I am in the $1,000 to $2,000 range for upgrades.
I am at the point of limiting myself from buying any coins for now and saving up for one or two upgrades later in the year.
Good luck with your sets.
