2007 Roosevelt Dime Error?

My son found this coin on the floor in his 4th grade classroom. Please look below the bust for what appears to be a die chip or ? He was wondering what type of error this might be and if it was worth anything. It does not appear to be PMD since the entire area in question is raised. It's pretty funny to have him come home all excited about finding an error, I think we have a future Fred W here. Thanks in advance, Jim

Jim, I found one with about half the cud surface. However, it is in the same location.

    Nice find! ! !

So would this be classified as a cud? I was always under the impression that a CUD was always along the rim.

Your son has a sharp eye. I also found a gouge in the same spot on a 1991 P dime. I wonder what causes this to occur in that location?

You could call it a large die chip or you could call it an interior die break. It's not a "cud" since it has no connection to the rim.

This is a common area for die chips to form in Roosevelt dimes. Even so, this is an unusally large one. It might be worth $10.

I think that classifies as a die chip. A cud would be when part of the shank of the die actually breaks off.

    COOL!!!
I actually do like searching dimes because the errors are interesting.
But yours is the most significant I've seen. Thanks
