Toning and Deep Cameo

Does the toning on a proof that is deep cameo prevent it from getting the deep cameo designation at PCGS? I saw this one on Ebay, and thought I would ask: Link

i'd think it's tougher to acquire "deep" if toning mutes the mirrors or frost

that's a pretty bold claim stating it will 67dcam

I have an 1869 PCGS PR-63 cameo Seated Dollar that is toned. I don't know about deep cameo, however.

I look at that coin and wonder how it achieved that particular toning pattern.

It appears that a coin was sitting on it meaning it was sitting loose and unprotected somewhere.

In my mind, I just cannot fathom a Proof Franky that would grade PR67 sitting anywhere, raw, where it would come in contact with another coin in an unprotected environment.

Lets say it was in the original packaging. Wouldn;t the old mint cello offer some protection?

Maybe a DCAM obv if the pics are good. the reverse is not DCAM

I would also question the toning and the grade of 67

Still a nice looking coin.

Funny how you can grade the attribute in an E-Bay title but not the grade.

Looks NT from here. I've seen coins tone like that crescent pattern while in plastic holders; you don't need a coin on top to produce that effect. Pictures have been juiced to bring out the cameo. As for 67, who knows?

Deep Cameo is determined not only by "Snow White" heavily frosted devices but also by clear, reflective fields which give the black/white contrast to the overall appearance. my experience with PCGS has taught me not to expect the DC designation if the fields or devices are heavily toned, no matter what the overall appearance may be and however eye appealing the tone may be.

IMHO, if a DC coin is toned it will not be graded as a DC if the toning hinders the frost and deep fields. At best it might recieve a Cam. Many of his coins look DC, but from his photos, it appears he's using some sort of filter.

For a DCAM you'd have to send it to NGC. Maybe ANACS.

Would you ever think if this could be a d-cam toner 67+ the seller would of had it slab himself?

I don't doubt it's a nice coin but it's a reach of a teach for the buyer to beware.

Anyone have PCGS price guide value for the statement grade of the seller. Let's say d/cam 67 is $500 or higher is worth a shot if the coin is d/cam 65. Would you break even. Help me I'm drowning with what if.

if the coin graded PR67DC at PCGS you could buy a nice new car with the proceeds of the sale.

It seems redundant, but in fact, NGC has tightend their UC standards.
