This is not really a token. It is a political "medal" not a token ... but it's made of wood. It's the only wooden medal I own.
Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?
Here's one of my favorites. The piece is an example of artwork by John Marr, who was a master at making attractive Civil War tokens.
And another John Marr piece ... And no I'm not big beer drinker. Mr. Best's daughter married Captain Pabst, and then the brand became a bit more famous.

This is a Civil War dog tag that was made for Union Civil War Soldier Horace Gardiner who hailed from Vermont. After some research I learned that Horace fought at Gettysburg, was honorable discharged and came home to his wife to live a fairly long life. He died in the 1890s. This piece is in Choice Uncirculated condition, which indicates that he did not wear it on the battlefield. Soldiers wore these because if the worst happened they could be identified for burial.
Since this one was “For Mary” it is more than likely that he gave it to his wife before he shipped out, and she preserved it during and after the war as a love token. There are no Vermont Civil War tokens. I purchased this piece to fill the “Vermont hole" in my New England Civil War token and medalet collection.

"Save the Constitution" - it must have been effective, it's moored in East Boston for all to see.

John Bolen storecard, ex Boyd-Ford (granted, not meant to circulate in any sense, a medallic storecard)
encased postage stamp, which IMO is technically a token

It's a sign that this thread (albeit it cool) has run its course.
Say good night, Stefanie.
