It's assumed that during the printing process a strip of card stock interupting the black ink transfer, preventing "Frank Thomas" from being printed...however, it didn't just prevent the name from transfering...much of the left border has no black, much of the bottom border is missing black, there is no black edge around the blue box, and a small strip of the right border is missing.
This one has everything by the name. A sure fake. There are good fakes that follow those "rules," but the printing process looks too vibrant typically. In hand, it becomes obvious they're fake.
I don't own the real deal. I've never stressed about acquiring one because they pop up all the time. I figure I'll lay down for a PSA 8 or better in the near future because I've finally acquired the harder to find rookies I needed.
Other than the Topps logo and black lines appearing on the card, the picture is also cropped incorrectly. Compare the Nike logo on his right show and also compare how much of his left shoe is showing on the left margin.

Here is a bad image of a real version:
<< <i>Since it's a fake, I sent a best offer of $1.99
If he accepts, I'll give you $3.98! I really want that card lol.

Deal!!
You should email the guy and let him know it's a fake and see what he says.
He may not know but that's kinda unlikely.

I've already emailed him with the same info and I told him I want a fake, so if he "knows were to get one" let me know.
If he thinks it's real, he probably thinks I'm trying to scam him out of his card lol.
edited to add:
Yes Matt,
Even when Beckett listed the card at a whole $60 for all those years, it was still heavily, heavily counterfeited.

<< <i>Just out of curiosity, who is the other guy on the card? >>
That would be tough to find out. What team has those colors? SEC Team?
CDsNuts, 1/9/15

That's a good question...I think I'll work to find that answer...may make a cool dual auto for a Thomas collector.
That'll be a tough one though. If anyone figures outs the team, please let me know.
edit:
Good call on the cropping Craig.
<< <i>Was that card counterfeited heavily Ross? It seems like an easy card for scammers to replicate >>
I'm unsure but this is the 2nd I've seen just like this (Swoosh difference)

Yes, this is the one Beckett did a piece on during the middle '90s. I need to go through and try to find it.
<< <i>Just out of curiosity, who is the other guy on the card? >>
Dick Van Patton
<< <i>I played against them in college and that looks like Tulane University uniforms to me. >>
Thanks for the info!
