I would definitely sub the Ripken on the right and both the Ryan on the right. The Ripken appears to be 10 worthy and the Ryan has a shot at least being a well centered 9. A well centered 9 will sell for more than your cost of grading fees.
Rob,
I have had a few drinks and may send my 1972 OPC packs back to BBCE for a credit. Put be down for two boxes.

P.S. Anyone else interested in this rip? (Still 5 spots avail., as BBCE cracked a second sealed cello case for us!) LMK!
<< <i>I'm interested if there are any spots still open. I don't want to send payment if it's full so I'm going to bed now I'll check back in the morning. >>
Ok payment sent. Thank you for setting this up. This is my first group rip and I'm looking forward to it. It is nice to see something within my price range as I'm a poor college student! Crossing my fingers for a solid Ryan to help pay for next years tuition lol.

James, I marked you paid! I'm sure you will get your money's worth, as ripping 48 cello packs, as your first rip, should enlighten you 'a plenty'!
for 24 bucks (+shipping), ...allows you to inspect 1,200 original 23 year old cards! So as your first rip, I cannot think of a better way to begin!
ripped 12 cellos tonight so far! (out of 48 packs) ~~~ Maybe I'll find something worth grading? (I'm too tired to "look and loop" tonite!)
There seems to be some nice commons, centered with decent looking corners, plus I scanned all the stars in those first 12 cello packs (...the good, bad and ugly!):
Here are a few highlights of the rip. Also got four nice Clemens and several of the Pete Rose Years Card. Ryan look soft in the upper right corner, but centering is really nice.
I ripped the remainder of cello box #1 (12 cello packs).
Here's some additional scans. I'm happy to say that many of the commons do have decent corners, contrary to what has been expressed about cello packs (I noticed that the centering is better on the base cards, over the sub-sets, like the "all-star" or the "Pete Rose" sub-set, cards: #2-#7)...
Anyone else have "an above average rip" (re: decent corners, edges, centering, surfaces, etc.)? I'd like to know and hear from you all? TIA
Centering looks good. You can usually judge the centering on 86's by the All Star cards. Those appear to be pretty close. Mine should be here tomorrow.
Thanks for setting this up, Robert. It had been a long time since I'd ripped an '86 cello, and I was really pleased with the condition of the cards. In fact, I'm no longer sure there's any real difference in quality between the cards that come from rak and those from cello (at least for this year).
I am using my two boxes to put a set together. Anyone doing the same and want to exchange wantlists let me know. I know I did not get the coveted Alan Knicely.
<< <i>I am using my two boxes to put a set together. Anyone doing the same and want to exchange wantlists let me know. I know I did not get the coveted Alan Knicely. >>
I plan on doing the same and will let you know. I've opened one box so far and did pretty good. got 2 clemens, 1 ripken, and 2 ryans. One of my ryans are the front card of an unopened cello. Not sure if i should open it or not. Centering looks perfect on it but bottom left corner looks a little dinged. I'll see if i can figure out how to scan and upload pics tomorrow after work.
I didn't get in on this rip... Probably because I have two unopened '86 rack boxes that I got from my local shop a couple months back for about $10 each.
That said, when I finally do crack those things open, what do I need to be keen on for the '86s, to be on the lookout for PSA 10s?
The black edge?
I've got a decent grading eye, but I've never attempted the '86s before.
I finished my two boxes this morning. I did NOT bother looking carefully at every common. Mostly just stars and semi-stars. I narrowed it down to about 50 that looked pretty good at first blush. I then narrowed it down to these that I would more seriously consider sending to PSA. After scanning them I am down to about 4 or 5. Yes, at least one of the Ryan's is going to PSA!
I left them in plastic when I scanned them which I guess is why some have that white look to them. Anyway, here they are:
Ok... hold on. Having photobucket problems. Will post in a moment or two....

1985 Topps Football (starting in psa 8) - #9 - started 05/21/06
How much does centering on the back of the card affect the overall grade? It is all over the place on the cards I've seen so far.
Some great packs, pulled a Ryan and Ripken out of one and a Rickey and a Mattingly out of another, but the backs are visibly off-center.
