<< <i>Thanks for the heads up!!! Just bought 4 boxes of 2008 Goudeys and some basketball and football...someone beat me to the Topps and Bowmans! >>

Nope, you're right! I bought 4 Goudeys and pulled 2 Game Used Piles of Crap! image it was fun though!

If anybody is grabbing these great deals and happen to pick up the '08 Goudeys and find some of those crappy GU, I am doing the semi-master set and would like to take those burdens off your hands.

    Thanks,

<< I just went to my local K-Mart and they said that they are no longer going to carry trading cards and that they "were shipped back"...whatever that means. It took me 45 minutes to go 8 miles in this blizzard too! Anybody in the Plainfield, Illinois area? I would love to get as many OPC hockey boxes as possible. >>

I haven't followed hockey in a while. Is there anything special in the 2008 OPC hockey? I thought it was just a basic set like normal Topps hockey used to be.

Not really, I just like the set and am partial to OPC cards

I was just at Kmart and saw lots of blasters but not what I wanted to buy.

I did see a double blaster box for 19.95 of 2007 Upper Deck BB future stars with possible autos and didn't get it. Did I blow it or let it go? They also had several 2008 SP Blaster BB as well.
  • I bought up all the ud heroes football, I love them but I still need like 50 cards to finish the set! Anyone else open this snd have some base cards? Also are all the blaster boxes 50 off or just the ones shrink wrapped with that price? I assume just those!
    who dey!

I was at Kmart yesterday with my wife buying some needed things for our little ones and I noticed my Kmart still had some SP Baseball blasters marked down 50 %...They also have some UD Baseball and lots of NFL and Hockey blasters.

I wish I could have bought more, but I did get one SP Blaster box. That's the first SP I have ever purchased and I've only bought a few new boxes since I've gotten back into cards. The majority of my purchases in the past were mainly pre 86 packs.

Wish me luck!! the best I've ever pulled is an SP Card from a 2008 Heritage last year and I did pull a jersey card from a blaster box my wife and little ones bought me for Xmas. I've never pulled an auto yet! Zep, are you reading this? I need some ZepLuck!!!!!

    image
  • Good luck Brian, if that were a Zep blaster every card would be an auto patch card.

No Kidding. Zep is the king of ripping!!! He sucks!!!! j/k If this was a Zep rip, the first pack would have had a vintage Babe Ruth Red Sox card with some type of Ruth dna.

  • What is the 3 on the Frank Thomas card?
  • zep33zep33 Posts: 6,897 ✭✭✭
Grab any Goudeys you can find.

I think UD must have been clearing out stock for that last round of those blasters they made. Has to be why I pulled so much ink out of those.

I didn't notice that...It's actually a 35..The 5 doesn't come up in the scan.I dunno what that means. The card is number 14 on the back.

They had a few Goudeys left, but I have never ripped any of them before.

Do I need to do a special Zep dance when I buy the cards, or after I buy them?

zep, I bought the last 8 boxes of Goudey our KMart had last Thursday. Out of 8 boxes I got 2 GU'd and 2 autos. The autos sucked but it's still cool to pull some ink from blaster boxes.

Autowise you are correct. For xmas I pulled a jersey card in my box. That's the best so far. For $10.99 I can't complain. Maybe these cards will end up being TTM cards for my son?

Good one Zep...That one won't work right now...I just gassed her car the other day and I'm within walking distance to work in regards to my car. Maybe I will swing by there on the way back from church. My wife never questions my purchases because I work hard and rarely spend any money on myself.

I know these look like a great deals, but if you took the amount of money you wanted to spend and bought hobby packs from a fresh box you would
have done much better. I hate to see people getting ripped off by these boxes. Upper Deck puts no odds on their boxes and promises nothing. Why would
you buy this knowing you have no shot at anything decent?

Even at 10.99 (funny that this isn't even half off), a box full of base cards is not worth the money.

There are hobby packs that cost 8-10 bucks per that guarentee one autograph per pack. Those would be better choices. Im not trying to be a jerk but I hate
to see guys getting ripped. Retail UD is a rip!

You are right for the most part Kevin. I have only bought 2 blaster boxes ever! I only bought this one because it's been a long time since I've bought any cards and I felt it was a cheap enough price for a little fun. Either way, the base cards I pulled did yield some good cards and they will be put away for my son's collection. I will probably try and get some TTM's on some of them too.

Also, you mention "There are hobby packs that cost 8-10 bucks per that guarentee one autograph per pack. " Are u referring to the sellers who are selling what they call as "Hot Packs"?

  • << <i>Also, you mention "There are hobby packs that cost 8-10 bucks per that guarentee one autograph per pack. " Are u referring to the sellers who are selling what they call as "Hot Packs"?
    >>

Yes, Kevin is endorsing the auctions by scumbag eBay sellers who can weigh the packs with a micrometer and know that a GU'd or auto card is in the pack.

I personally have thoroughly enjoyed UD's various blaster boxes this past year especially Goudey. How can you complain about spending $11 for a box and usually find at least one card from the box that is selling on eBay for more than what you paid for the whole box? 2009 Topps Series 1 blasters are the same way right now if you can find them at Walmart or Kmart.
  • joestalinjoestalin Posts: 12,473 ✭✭
no I wasn't, these sellers are scum of the earth and there is no way they can know that a pack has an on card autograph in it without resealing it.

Razor has a product that is 10 per pack, one autograph per, they are all prospects. If you can find cheap Ultra from the last two years and SPx, then those
will have very good odds at GU/autos..I believe they were one per pack.

I know the main issue with cards is that the best price isn't always around when you need a fix! LOL, the only thing around is the 24 hour walmart and that
is dangerous. Sometimes you just need to rip and it doesn't matter what you pull...I just want people to know that these UD boxes are essentially worthless
even at 40% off...or is it 45% off?

    Good Luck

To say that buying those blaster boxes at Walmart, Target, or K-Mart is worthless really doesn't make sense to me. There are people who enjoy base sets and if they get one of the "sparkly" cards then it's a bonus. Not everybody collects cards based on their value.

Very well said, I've been just picking up a pack or two every once in awhile for my son Wyatt. When I purchase for me, I normally buy pre 1984 stuff. Either way, I feel the SP cards I got are very nice and the 2008 UD my wife and kids bought me for xmas feature excellent photography.

    brian

P.S. Kevin, I feel the worst pulls I've ever had have come from Topps Heritage boxes. I don't know why, but that's been my case.

The SP cards are nice too if you and your son ever send stuff TTM. Both of my daughters, ages 24 and 16, learned how to use the Excel program on the computer by sending out cards TTM and tracking their progress. ProSet hockey, 1987 Topps baseball, and 1992 Topps baseball and hockey are their favorites to use. Why? Because of the simple designs, card stock that takes an autograph well, and the fact that if a card doesn't come back that a ton of money wasn't lost.

My KMart is still selling blasters for full price. Hrrmph.
Collector of 1976 Topps baseball for some stupid reason.
Collector of Pittsburgh Pirates cards for a slightly less stupid reason.

Thanks for the scans guys, I see a lot of nice stuff, one thing I didn't see was an Upper Deck autograph. Just proves my point and if you only know
retail then you are also missing the point, of course if you are happy with pulling base cards, short print cards and game used cards from your
boxes retail is the way to go, I guess I like the chance of actually pulling a nice card. I don't think I would be off if I said that 99% of what comes out
of todays retail UD blasters will never be worth anything.

and as far as heritage goes, boxes and packs are for the most part poor values, but the short prints and chromes can be worth it if you know when to sell, but I
will be the first to agree heritage boxes don't have a lot of value in them over the entire print run!

It doesn't bother anyone that all the card companies are promising you a value card, either and auto or GU per box, EXCEPT Upper Deck? Why would they not
    even give you odds?

    Kevin

  • << <i>It doesn't bother anyone that all the card companies are promising you a value card, either and auto or GU per box, EXCEPT Upper Deck? Why would they not >>

You just eliminated your entire arguement. ALmost all UD products including retail have a guaranteed auto or GU'd card in it.
  • joestalinjoestalin Posts: 12,473 ✭✭
which of these 10.99 boxes have guarenteed hits in them? Please tell me.

    Kevin
  • I have a box of 2008 UD Series 2 on my desk that was $5.99 at Kmart and one guaranteed GU'd card per box.
