So I take it that the 81 cut card case didn't turn out so well?

    Were they both crappy?

One box was completely worthless. All the HOF'ers were OC and the low pop commons had dinged corners. One case was pristine. I will be submitting approximately 15 each of Ken Oberkfells (Cardinals, not Braves) and some other guy who's name I have now forgotten but has a PSA 10 pop of zero.

And when you get 7 PSA 10's of each, what do you think they will sell for as a pop 7?

Edited to add: I had a similar thing happen with a Brett issue that was pop 0 in PSA 10. I sent 3 that had a fair chance, and when the sub popped the first one i checked was a PSA 9, the second one I checked was a PSA 10, and before squeezing the third one I was hoping it was NOT a PSA 10. Luckily it was a PSA 9, which kept the Brett as a pop 1. I sold the pop 1 for $515, and I truly believe the buyer would not have paid anywhere near that for a pop 2.

Sell them as a lot to some fool that thinks they are worth $50 a piece. When the other 8 come back as 9's, I am going to start a thread about how I got screwed on some sweet 1981 Topps Oberkfells.

My Kmart has yet to carry any 08 Goudeys, they do have some Chrome left.
  • I busted the Bowman Chrome, one box of the UD Update and one Goudey. Got some pretty good stuff. Will post scans in a bit.

Bill, You rock!! I bought 2 of the UD series 2 for my son yesterday and got lots of good cards. Please let me know how you made out on the Goudey and the Bowman Chrome as I want to go back and get some more this afternoon.

  • The Goudey were horrible. Loved the Bowman Chrome. Got a JR Towles GUd jersey card and an Eric Eiland Xfractor.

You aren't kidding. In the same shopping center as our Kmart are closed stores from Linens and Things, Levitz Furniture, and Wickes Furniture.

picked up 8 boxes of Goudey at 10.99 each over the weekend. Got a ton of SPs I needed but no autos and 1 GU

pretty happy with all the SPs though

  • Do KMarts carry the Topps 2008 Factory Set? It would be nice to pick that up for half price.
  • BigRedMachineBigRedMachine Posts: 2,563 ✭✭✭
Thanks to the OP for bringing this to my attention. I haven't bought many cards recently, but my feminine side kicked in and I decided I couldn't pass up on a sale. I mean, it's on sale, right?

I just drove through near blizzard conditions 25 miles to the nearest K Mart to see if they had anything. Lo and behold, I got these:

    image

All are new to me, but thought it'd be fun. I was hoping for some bowman chrome and some football cards, but the kmart I went to was loaded with Goudey and Upper Deck 2 baseball. There was also a boatload of 08 O-Pee-Chee hockey but that's never been my thing. A few basketball, but no football, which aside from Heritage, is the only thing I buy anymore. I'll probably crack a few and save a few boxes, through some up on my shelf with my other worthless stuff.
    image

Besides the obvious autos you never seem to get in retail boxes, except for Nam's miraculous score a couple months back, what should I be looking for?

I only saw retail blasters on sale at the one I was at.

    Anyone's Kmart have any football?

  • << <i>Anyone's Kmart have any football? >>

Mine had football but they were not on sale. They only had the same boxes you posted and the hockey. I almost broke down and bought a hockey box since they were 50% off.

I just went to my local K-Mart and they said that they are no longer going to carry trading cards and that they "were shipped back"...whatever that means. It took me 45 minutes to go 8 miles in this blizzard too! Anybody in the Plainfield, Illinois area? I would love to get as many OPC hockey boxes as possible.

I GUESS KMART DID NOT TELL THE STORE ON LONG ISLAND THAT THEY WERE ON SALE. HOWEVER, NO BIGGIE, BECAUSE THEY DIDN'T HAVE TOO MUCH TO SELL ANYWAY! ALL JUNK AND HIGH PRICES.

SOOOOO ... I SPENT AN HOUR ... TOOK A NICE LITTLE RIDE ... AND CAME HOME WITH THE SAME AMOUNT OF MONEY IN MY POCKET THAT I HAD WHEN I LEFT IN SEARCH OF MY CARDBOARD GOLD!

I alluded to the same thing in my initial post to this thread. I'm opening packs and don't have a clue what's good and what isn't.

Love the Topps Chrome and Bowman Chrome, always some of my favorites in the past, but my Kmart didn't have either of those brands. Of course, I couldn't resist the "sale" and bought 8 boxes of other stuff anyway.

In my first box, I got a Torii Hunter GU card, which, although I don't buy many boxes these days, makes the 32nd box in a row I've purchased that has a Torii Hunter GU card.

I haven't followed hockey in a while. Is there anything special in the 2008 OPC hockey? I thought it was just a basic set like normal Topps hockey used to be.
