That's a great looking card Matt, and if you had announced this one day earlier I would have pulled my 1961 PSA 8 Musial off eBay before it sold yesterday.

Good luck with the rest of your acquisitions.

    Matt,

    Excellent start!!!

Are you going for the Basic Set, Master Set or both?

I was really surprised that there were only 10 cards needed for the Basic Set, but then I remembered that there were no qualifying Musial's from '54-'58.

A plus is that the Master Set consists of only 52 cards, with the toughest probably being the '62 Venezuela Topps.

You should have no trouble attaining your 7.0 GPA; just take your time and have a little patience.

Good luck and be sure to keep sharing image

I am building the Basic Set for right now, but I can see myself working on the Master Set once I complete the Basic Set. There are cards like the: 1951 Wheaties Hand Cut, 1954 Red Heart, 1951 Berk Ross, 1952 Berk Ross and 1953 Exhibits Canadian that I really like. So we will see once I get the Basic complete.
  • Great stuff Matt! This is a set I've often thought about doing myself.
  • thehallmarkthehallmark Posts: 1,332 ✭✭✭
That 1952 Berk Ross card you mentioned is gonna be a tough find well-centered, but super rewarding when you finally get it.

These early purchases of yours are amazing. Premium 8s, all. Very nicely done!!

No love for the 52' Bowman? That is one I am very fond of.

Great player to collect, but I may be a bit bias. image

48 Bowman, 48 Leaf, 49 Leaf, 52 Bowman and 53 Bowman Color are part of the Basic Set. I will definately be adding those cards. I am very particular with my cards, so I am being patient.

Patience is the key to doing the player sets. I will go ahead and say I have never finished a players setimage

Bob, Awesome 52, 53 Bowman's and I LOVE the Wheaties box. I just wish you weren't such a "Jerk" and FORCE me to buy all of these cards from you all the time! image

Thanks to some help from fellow board member Mickey71 who sold me a SWEET 62 Topps Musial, I am at the 50% mark on my Stan Musial Set. I need to get Bob (bobsbbcards) to sell me that 1952 Bowman PSA 8 and I will be rolling again. Here are the first 5 cards I have acquired on my way to the ten needed for the Stan Musial Basic Registry Set.

Thanks to Dr. Kramer (Paleocards) for 1959 Topps PSA 8.

I really want to say thanks again to all the fellow board members who are such a great resource in finding cards. I am able to pick up a majority of my cards off these boards, rather than having to deal with EBAY. I will keep updating as I acquire more Musials.

My Musial set has been a slow go. I have been looking for very well centered cards, and am having a very HARD time finding them, and affording them once they are found. Well I was able to Add a couple cards recently, including a 49 Bowman tonight. The 62 Topps in the previous scan got bumped at the National to a PSA 8.5. Its a pop 2 card with 24 garded higher. I am very pleased.

    Hi Matt,

Wow! That '63 is a blazer! Beautifully centered!

Super nice STM rookie! Great pickup!

You're doin' it right .... take it slow .... find the ones that please you the most .... and enjoy the hunt!

    Thanks for sharing!

  • Matt,
Great cards and keep up the good work!
53 Bowman Color is by far my favorite.

I was extremely sad and disgusted with the way he got pushed aside at this years AS game in St. Louis.
Stan will always be the man.

  • MBMILLER,

Great looking cards. I am starting a Musial basic set also. I have just started to look for cards in psa 6's. If you have any that you want to part with or know of anybody who does let me know. Again great cards and good luck with the set.

Miller, Nice 49 Pick up. Very well centered. Congrats, looking forward to the others.

  • Thanks to Brian (BKritz) I was able to add the most difficult Musial card to my Basic Set yesterday. I am down to needing just two cards the 52 Bowman and 53 Bowman Color to complete the Musial Basic Set. If anyone out there has a PSA 8 52 Bowman and either a PSA 8 or PSA 7 53 Bowman Color, please let me know.

Picked this 1953 Bowman Color up last night on the PWCC auction. I paid handsomely for it, but I thought it was a stunning example of this card. I am now down to just needing the 52 Bowman in PSA 8 and my Musial Basic Set will complete. I have added pics of the rest of my set to bring it up to date.

I was watching that one last night as well. That card is too soft for me to pay that much over VCP for it but it is a nice example.

These cards are made even better by the fact that Stan Musial has to be one of the nicest baseball stars I ever had the opportunity to meet (and sing "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" while he played harmonica). (Nate Colbert was pretty awesome too).

Finished off my Musial Basic Set today, Bittersweet to be complete with this project, Not sure what I will do from here. I ended up settling comfortable in at #4 current finest and #5 all time right between Jim Crandell and the likes of Addison Collection and Steve Soloway. Thanks to all that helped me with cards along the way. Here are the scans from 48 Bowman to 63 Topps.
