January special poppages of 100, 30, and 15 cards - all 145 grades posted

In hindsight I should have stopped after the first 15 cards of the 100 card submission. My lesson learned here is that 100 cards in 1 sub is too many (but how many shipping charges am I supposed to pay), and after 40 or 50 cards it becomes far too easy for the grader to just keep saying 8, 8, 8, 8....instead of giving each card it's fair shake (my fault not his). Almost all the 1972's are for my registry set so they're kinda palatable, but I honestly thought none were less than an 8 except for the stars and some high numbers.

Every card other than the 1972's were submitted for resale, and the 1973's and 1975's, (which I obviously thought were all better than 8 or I wouldn't have subbed them), are going to get a better look from me when I get them back since in their current holder they are almost all unsaleable. You may look at some of the cards and say "why did he submit that one?" but some of these cards (in the 100 card submission) are real winners in a PSA 9 holder.

Also, none of this is me saying I got the grader of death or anything like that, I just think I bored him to tears with such a big submission of mainly 70's commons.

Here is the 100 card submission on the $5 special:

That sucks they couldn't throw you a bone on a few of those 8's. I would deffinetly take a look at some of those when you get them back.

    << <i>That sucks they couldn't throw you a bone on a few of those 8's.......... >>

I honestly don't want to be thrown any bones. I just think I hindered each card getting objective eyes by making too big of a submission. To be fair, the 1972 Pete Rose in action is over graded by a full point as it is now at 8.5

Sorry, Nick. I started to look over your list, but it's just too dang long. I was interested for the first few, but then it was like... whatever. image

That Sucks. As I've said before, maybe once or twice. The pendulum has swung the wrong way in your case. Maybe one of us will be the benifit of the swing the other way!!!

    << <i>Congrats on the 69 Hamilton. Tough card. >>

Thanks Ron, it's really gonna help, and it was sitting in my 1969 set all this time. I replaced it with an EX-MT example which fits my set much better.

    << <i>What happened with the 69 Reggie? >>

Just a lower grade card. He and the 1969 Mantle would have got sent in with the lower grade stars in the $6 special if 1969 would have been allowed in that special, but they weren't so I got to save a buck each. image

The '69 Deckle Rose in PSA 8 was a $200 card about four years ago-- although I'm not sure what it fetches now.

You seemed to do well on the Elway and Rice cards. Great job!

Nam, was that 75 Darrell Evans OC any from top to bottom?
I remember when I collected that set it was a tough one and usually because of that reason.
Claudell Washinton also tough in PSA 9.

<< <i>Nam, was that 75 Darrell Evans OC any from top to bottom?........ >>

Yes, and it could have easily been graded a 9OC, but here's the weird thing, only his name is centered low on the card. The team name, and the photo of the player are very well centered. Here is the raw scan of the card to show what I mean.

nam, I submitted one just like that, and it got a 7 also. Just the name is placed low. I'll try to scan mine and post here. Takes me a long time to scan and upload to photobucket, slow computer. So could be tomorrow morning.
  • DarinDarin Posts: 6,757 ✭✭✭✭✭
Here's mine. Mine's also off a bit L-R. Just a tough card to get a 9. I have two raw cards with his name at the very bottom of the card, worse than this.

The Evans card appears to be an anomaly in the 1975 set where, more often than not, the card is very well centered, but the player's name is set too close to the bottom edge.

Good work on the money cards Nick. Sorry your grader dozed off. Was your 62 Witt worn or snowy?

<< <i>Good work on the money cards Nick. Sorry your grader dozed off. Was your 62 Witt worn or snowy? >>

Thanks Mike. My 1962 Witt was very well centered but had wear. It was properly graded as a 6, but I just tried to slip one by since 7's do very well, and 6's even get $10.
  • Nice job on the '72 Rose IA card at 8.5. That used to be a tough card in 8 but not sure these days.

Thanks Neal, but like I mentioned above, my opinion is that the 1972 Pete Rose IA is over graded by a full point.
