If I'm Matt Leinart, I Don't Know What To Think ...

If I'm Matt Leinart, I don't know what to think. Yes, I'm happy my team just beat the Falcons and are still in the playoffs. Unfortunately, I played no role in the win. And the longer that Kurt Warner does well, I can just pin myself to that bench. The 2009-10 season will be Leinart's 4th season in the NFL and 1) how close is he to playing and 2) even if he does play, can you expect him to play well?

    That is a good question and it depends on how healthy Warner will be next year and can he stay at his current performance level. Also, going back to my days as a kid I remember many of the future QB stars to be stayed on the side lines for their first several years. Maybe Leinart will be seasoned when its his turn...and that's if he's really the real deal he was when he played at USC.

    If I'm Matt Leinart, I'm thinking I'm making millions of dollars to do nothing, hooking up with any girl I want to, and living a pretty sweet life.

    He's obviously not thinking about football too much because to not be a starting QB in this league by now means he hasn't dedicated himself to it.

    Warner really had a great year. The only thing helping Leinert is the fact that Warner is old and he took the most hits of any QB this year. He may not want to go through that again in 2009. Plus his contract is up and you have to wonder how many great years he has left in him. Would you sign him for two years for $20 million? Those are the types of decisions that get GM's fired down the road.

    I love Warner and his great comeback play the last two years, but I'd like to see him go out on top and not an old, injured QB that hung around too long.

    I'm not sold on Leinert either. Somewhat weak arm strength and he doesn't seem to have the touch he had at USC.
  • The Bucs will welcome him with open arms. I'm over the carousel of QBs, give me some one we can potentially build around.

    Steve Young didn't wind up doing too bad carrying a clipboard for Montana all these years..

    (Not AT ALL suggesting that Leinart is even in the same zip code as Young, but just saying that he will get an opportunity if he deserves one.)

    he's still getting paid and learning not to try to do too much, when in there, by watching warner play well into his late 30's and playing well

    Leinart will get his chance, just like Matt Cassel did. image

    if Brady gets healthy, what do you think the Jets would give up for Cassel?

    Price would be steep enough such that a deal would not happen (unless the Jets get duped, which could happen if they have a Matt Millen - Like GM), as I don't think the Pats want Cassel in the AFC East.

    The problem with that is the fact Gruden is still the coach. He doesn't like or believe in younger qb's. That has been the topic of many call in radio shows around here lately.

    Matt

    How many games did Simms and Grads start with the Bucs?

    The younger QB thing is and old and tired argument!

    Yeah but where are they now? Not on the Bucs.

    The older qb thing is alive and well.

    BTW, I really could care less who he starts. I am just stating what is once again filling my ears as I drive to work

    Not only is he young, he just not good.

    I don't see that guy going very far in the NFL unless he magically tranforms himself.
  • Simms would likely still be the QB in Tampa if he didn't get hurt.

    So what is Matt Leinart thinking now?

    A. This is a great opportunity for me to play no role in getting a Super Bowl ring;
    B. If I'm not already used to it, I'd better start getting really used to that bench/clipboard;
    C. Has a Super Bowl starting QB ever been injured IN THE TWO WEEKS LEADING UP TO THE GAME?
    D. I'm glad Mark Sanchez learned from my mistake and decided not to stay an extra year in college.
    E. Someday, hopefully, I'll be throwing to Larry Fitzgerald!
    F. All of the above.
