A new buff and a new book

ad4400ad4400 Posts: 2,135 ✭✭✭✭✭
For Christmas I got Mark Goodman's book and this buff nick. I've applied one to the other. Lesson for today was white balance (still using a preset, just not AWB) and it really was amazing the difference that one little change could make. Plus I played with ISO speed. Still have a lot to learn.

Oh, and let me know what you think of the coin itself.

That's a nice Buffie! I'd think that was a 65 (nice strike), regardless of what the 'book' says!

The reverse on that coin is just killer, as though it were the first coin from the first die. And the obverse is nothing to sneeze at. Very, very nice!

  • Hi All,

I have to ask about the reverse rim. Is that glue or the plastic, it runs from around 9:00 to about 4:00. I think I've seen it before on slabs but just don't remember. It doesn't look like it's on the coin and it's covering the tail. Refresh my memory please.

P.S. I forgot to mention the most important part....sweet buffalo, thanks for sharing and congrats!

I believe what you are seeing is the mold flashing on the urethane grommet in the PCGS slab. Slightly annoying, somewhat disconcerting, but harmless.

Thanks for the comments. It is PCGS slabbed as a 64. As for the details, well, check the sellers pics! The color is truer on mine, but they did a better job picking up the detail.

Fantastic coin, but its the lighting that brought out the detail. Unless one is an experienced photographer its a trade off between light and detail in a lot of photos. In elements software you can mess around with the contrast and bring out more or less detail. The light reflection on the top of your picture helps to wash out some of the detail.
