1914-D Lincoln fake alert. See the main thread.

That's the coin that got me my only neg. feedback on ebay!!! After more than 2600 Pos.
I left him a neg. knowing he'd retaliate but I didn't care. Someone had to do it.
His stated that I'd switched coins with the one in his collection!
I bought a complete collection with "1914-D XF++" in the title.
This is the coin that came in the set.
I spent 2 months working with paypal doing everything they wanted me to do.
That included calling him up and talking it out. He was downright abusive to me.
Then I had to get a written statement from a coin dealer to back up what I told them.
There are two full-time dealers here and one of them was out of town.
The other one refused to get involved, afraid he could get into trouble with a law-suit.
The third was a dealer of everything but sold a lot of coins and supplies.
She looked it over and said it was a 1944-D with a poor attempt to make look like a 1914.
After she said that, I told her to look under Lincoln's shoulder. The VDB was plain as day!
Maybe a couple of you didn't know they put the initials there beginning in 1918. She didn't.
After all was done, I was reimbursed $1531 which I paid just to get the coin.
He tried to sell the set twice that I know of without it at a considerably lower price.
Nobody wanted the crud he said was all VF or better. That was a lie too.
I knew it was risky but he had 700+ feedback and 100%. So I took a chance and got burned.
I'll post some good pictures of it tomorrow. I've been busy today and feel a little tired.
I even got the initials good enough so you can tell they're there.
Come back tomorrow and take a look.

This is my last attempt ot attach a file. It shows the close-up view of the date and VDB initials if I did it right.
Edited to add; This happened over a year ago. Also, there was no 1909-S VDB included in the description of the set.
Well, I see you can click on the link. I'll try to do the same in the main thread, Lincoln Fake Alert! *UPDATE* Apparent Stolen Gold Buff Pics

It is health that is real wealth, not pieces of gold and silver. Gandhi.

You're CU profile has you from Peoria, IL.
I've got the seller who listed it as a fake from St. Louis, MO.
And the seller now in question from Olive Hill, KY.
Thanks!
<< <i>JT, Please clear a little something up for me? I'm a little confused now. Which one of these guys, on eBay, were you?

I'm a little confused myself. I can't find the photos I took of this coin.
Even as small as it is on the listing, I know it's the same one.
I never thought he had the guts to try to sell it outside the set which
he must have finally gotten rid of.
Just reading the listing, I know the same person wrote it.
When I talked to him on the phone, he didn't sound like he writes.
I think he writes like that to make buyers think he's naive about coins. He isn't.
He was from California at that time.
I'll try again later on the photos and add them if I find them.
Yes, I'm in Peoria and I'm simply the one that bought it about 16 months ago.
I think that whole mess resulted in some of the changes in ebay's rules.
Possibly the one about not putting a grade in the title on an uncertified coin
and maybe even the one about sellers not leaving feedback to buyers.

You should have suspected something when he included a 1914-D in "XF ++" in a group of coins. A coin like that could easily sell on its own, not part of a group.
<< <i>The "1914-D" made from the 1944-D cent is probably as old as the 1944-D cents. Any dealer who is worth his salt should spot this one. >>
When I was a kid, my friend across the street had a 14-D as his prize possession.
Of course it turned out to be an altered 44-D -- and even a kid could (or should have been able to tell) tell it was a crude fake!
My friend was bummed out -- I think he knew it was bogus but didn't want to admit that it was.
I'll have to remind him of this story the next time I see him!
60 years into this hobby and I'm still working on my Lincoln set!
<< <i>Thanks for the clarification JT. You are greatreprocoins right? >>
Wrong if that's an ebay user handle.
I'm jdtan, the one who in 16 or so months has only made one transaction on ebay.
I bought an AGE, 2008 proof, about 2 or 3 months ago when the mint said they
were sold out at that time. I just got tired of fighting their new and IMPROVED system.
