Theoretical risk/reward question

What is the max you would pay for an ungraded card that usually has centering issues and usually sells for right at $100 in PSA 9 and over $1000 in PSA 10 and, according to the scans you were given, the card is dead centered with four sharp corners?

Edit to add Merry Christmas.

  • I'd probably pay $75 for it and take my chances. If it didn't grade well you could always try to crack it and resell it. But if the potential for a $100-$1000 card is there, why not go for it? The most you might lose is $20-$30.

    Two questions...

    Is it pre-1980?

Does the seller sell other "graded" cards?

75% of an 8 is a very good answer.

  • Seller offered it to me for $100. When I politely explained the value of a PSA 9, he asked what my absolute best offer was.

  • $80-85.don
  • If the guy has ever subbed a card in his life.....I'd wager $50 in comes back: evidence of trimming.

if not trimmed...he/she already knows how it graded...there is a reason it is raw...

  • Ebay seller but trying to buy it off eBay. Seller doesn't appear to sell any graded cards.
  • I agree that there is a reason is hasn't been graded already. I think I know what card you are referring to. Seller does have some graded cards for sell, BGS and PSA. Seller says he doesn't accept returns and he is not a professional grader but the pictures are close up an show everything you need to see. Something seems fishy to me...

75-80% of PSA 9 value Bill and I would take my chances. If PSA 9 value is $100 I really doubt the seller would take the time to Trim the card

Not knowing if its a star/HOF card, overpriced 60's common, modern star card, or a mass produced newer one (post 1981)....

If its raw.... pay/offer 75% of the raw price in NRMT/MINT. What does it book for in the 2009 SCD Guide in MINT?

Go oldschool for a change..... dont think SLAB..... we collect cards not plastic slabs..... its funner and more in line with reality.

PS. Is it really a 1000% jump from 9-10......even though both will look exactly the same at arms length? Can never understand this hobby now.
  • Is FUNNER a real word? Don't we use more fun?
