Help with insight into this new 1788 Colonial purchase?

Bought this at a local shop. I know its not a real 1788 but a replica of some type.

I just thought it had a nice look to it and rather cool. I notice that some of the colonial coins that were copied

during the 19th century have established their own following and some are valued very richly. I'm sure that this one does not

fall into that category, but where does it fall? anybody know?

I have quite a few reference books and i find nothing on it. It appears to be copper and of same weight and dimensions of original

but the devices are clearly not true to the original 1788 coin. Thanks in advance for your input.

Quite a few copies of Massachusetts 1788 half cents and cents were made and are normally found in Unc. grades. It looks like yours in one of those copies.

Yes I agree. This is a copy that was struck before the Hobby Protection Act. I don't know values for this stuff, but I once saw a dealer give one to Eric P. Newman as a gift. A true Mass. half cent is a very expensive item, and one in the choice R&B Unc. would cost a pretty penny.

In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

Hard to imagine in these days what a half cent would buy. image

    Neat looking coin.
