My British 1/3 farthing set complete!

Most of my 1/3 farthings were either purchased raw or already in a PCGS slab. I had one the predessor to this coin PCGS MS64 RB which I crossed (after cracking out) from a NGC MS 64 RB.
Here's my set so far for anybody interested:
http://www.pcgs.com/setregistry/MySetRegistry/mycollection.aspx?c=46740
+ 1827 MS64BN, 1835 MS62BN, 1902 MS64RD, 1913 MS65RD and
I'm just waiting on a 1884 getting slabbed.
All I am missing is a 1844 which I have sourced.
Then I will have a full set in PCGS MS grades.
I have asked the powers that be to change the set to recognise the other 1/3 farthings and not just the Victoria ones.
They have agreed to do so when my set is complete.
Regards,
Hus

What was the grade on the one you upgraded from?

It was the same grade, but a RB. I managed to swap it with a dealer I know (+ a small amount of cash).
I prefer NGC's registries because they allow both NGC and PCGS coins in them. I wish PCGS would do likewise.
That would be handy if they did.
I can't join over on NGC, because they don't accept people with Hotmail email addresses.
I have two Yahoo accounts and one Hotmail account. As well as business ones
I opened the Hotmail so I could chat to relatives abroad using MSN. I have my primary Yahoo account for friends and family and one account which I use when I need to sign up to things online.
There is a smaller denomination the 1/4 farthing which coinpictures has a post on at the moment.
Here's a picture of the first one:
http://www.coinsgb.com/George_IV/2-Third-farthing.html
There were 12 business issues struck the last one being 1913.
1 for George IV
1 for William IV
8 for Victoria
1 for Edward VII
1 for George V
You can see most on my website by clicking on a ruler i.e Victoria and the 1/3 farthings:

Below is a good reference website on farthings and their fractions:

Thank you for the links. They were very informative!

Happy holidays to you too.
I have now completed the British 1/3 Farthing set in PSGS MS condition.
http://www.pcgs.com/setregistry/AlltimeSet.aspx?s=46740&m=14010&ac=0
The PCGS site only has Victorian ones listed but I've spoken to them about adding them all.
The complete dates for a set and my grades are below:
1827 - George IV MS64BN
1835 - William IV MS62BN
1844 - Victoria MS64BN
1866 - Victoria MS63RB
1868 - Victoria MS63RB
1876 - Victoria MS63RB
1878 - Victoria MS63RB
1881 - Victoria MS64RD
1884 - Victoria MS62RB
1885 - Victoria MS64RB
1902 - Edward VII MS64RD
1913 - George V MS65RD
I now need the varieties and proofs. Although I might move on to the other fractionals.

None of these were crossed I think three of them were already in PCGS slabs the rest I purchased raw and submitted.
I should also give Don a big shout out because without his help in letting me submit them they probably wouldn't be in the PCGS registry set.
Three cheers, lad.

<< <i>Good going Hussulo, it feels good to complete a set doesn't it. I also use the NGC registry since they accept both, I have a split of probably 60-40 the other guys and can't see paying a bunch of money to cross. >>
As do I, but NGC *STILL* hasn't added any fractional farthing registry sets, despite requests for several years now to do so. Idiots.
Good going Hussulo! The proofs will be tough to track down. I still don't own any...
P.S. Reading this thread made me do a bad bad thing. Pop 2/0 at NGC. PCGS has not certified any 1844s in RD.

Dan, it's just a decision to switch to PCGS and it can all be done in one single crossgrading submission. IMO it's worth the fees, if one decides to participate in the registry.

proofs are out of my current budget for now though.
I might email NGC too they might add it if a few people ask. I can always upload my PCGS coins to it.

It is a narrow or small date variety.
The two can be seen here:

I paid quite a bit over the guide prices but I really wanted it.
The dates I've struggled the most to find in high grades are:
1835, 1866, 1868, 1876, 1878 and 1884.
When I saw that one I new I couldn't pass it up. It has to be one of the nicest if not the nicest example of an 1878 1/3 farthing in existence.
I've also noticed what could be a new variety. Opinions?
If you compare the two types on Colin's website and this:
I would say this one (my old example for 1878) has a large 7, the bottom of the 7 extends below the 8's.
Perhaps we could call it the large 7 variety?
Come to think of it the bottom of the seven on my new coin appears to be rounded where as the others have a flat bottom.
Another new variety, the rounded 7 perhaps?
They aren't widely collected not much research has been done on them.
Seriously, I was the underbidder. I guess you wanted it more than I did. Congrats!

I was in the bidding for awhile but dropped out about $150 short of the winning bid.
Good to see someone who really needed it for a great set land it....
It's just that I got my PCGS grades.
I did really want it.
Who would have guessed the only two 1/3 farthing collectors in the world battling it out. Lol
I was hoping to win it for less but I bid high hoping to win.
It's a nice upgrade to the one I own.
