Will X-Ray machine at the airport hurt a metal detector?

I'm thinking about travelling with my detector. Will the detector be harmed by the X-ray machine at the airport? If I put the detector in my checked luggage, will rough handling likely damage it?

    The X-ray will not hurt your machine... rough handling will, if improperly packed. Break it down, pad it well, and put in center of your luggage. Cheers, RickO

    The machine will in no way affect your metal detector... But! The rough man handling is sure to give it some wear and tear. Stuff it full of bubble wrap and hope to christ that you get a less aggressive member of staff sorting out your luggage.
