1981 Wade Boggs minor league...real or fake???

I've had this for a few years and was thinking of sending to PSA. Anyone know if this is real or a reproduction?? I read that these were reproduced and wouldn't have a clue on how to tell.

thanks-
Claude

Many of those minor league sets were reprinted, TCMA is about 10 minutes from my house (or was)

When I had my store he would always want me to move his crap.

Is this particular Boggs a reprint? No way to tell as he used the same plates or whatever the term is.

Are you saying that someone else also may have faked them too?

    Steve
    Good for you.
  • I agree with Steve. No real way to tell for sure. I would wait until the next special and spend the 5 or 6 bucks and see what happens. If it's real or at least labeled as real, you could sell it with a clear conscience.

Do you know the names of the guys that did the TCMA sets and if they are still in the area? I would love to be able to talk to one of them.

As far as the counterfeits go, there is still yet to be a confirmed counterfeit of the '81 TCMA Ripken.

I was watching some of those a couple of months back and saw them in MGS holders and they seemed to cheap - I questioned the authenticity of the them...

Here is a PSA for comparison....

My guess is that it is Fake. IMO
  • I think its real. I have the Ripken, They look identical, and mine is slabbed PSA 9.

IF TCMA printed that card recently, a few years later, or in it's an original run, I don't think you would be able to tell. As long as the card is made from it's original film (or whatever they used at that time) and on the same card stock that wouldn't bother me. That being said, the TCMA should release something in regards to their cards if any of those cards were re-printed or re-made in later runs.

the one by the OP looks to be fake as compared to the slabbed psa 8. the font on the back is what i'm basing my opinion on as well as the brightness of the front (could be the difference in the scans).

i liked collecting boggs in the mid/late 80s.

    Thanks,
