You have a very limited choice still available (AGE's)... most items are no longer available, but the items that are, take about 2 to 3 weeks for delivery....hope this helps

As OPA said, there are limited gold choices left in the US Mint Website.

The lowest premium over spot gold ($824 per oz) are the Celebration Buffalo 1 oz gold ($968.88) or the American Gold Eagle 1 oz ($974.95), which are both about 17 - 18% premium over spot gold.

Smaller AGEs are also available at this time but at a higher premium over the spot gold price.

Is there any merit to backwardation concerning gold futures. I am considering a big gold purchase through the mint, so I can utilize there return policy if things don't go as expected.

If I were buying gold from the Mint, I wouldn't be doing it because of backwardation with the thought of using the return policy as a contingency plan in case price fluctuations went against my position. It's not worth the trouble, it's an abuse of the return policy and you can buy gold at a lower premium to spot elsewhere.

If I were you, I'd be more worried about how long it takes to process a return.
