2009-W Silver Eagle

Am I right that the mint is not putting an end to the burnished silver american eagle? I thought that when I read the release that it was not mentioned as being one of the products coming to an end. I am just curious as to why they would choose to continue the silver but end the others.

I'm not so sure about that as they may discontinue it since it adds to the product mayhem that they have created.

It seems to me that they would continue with just the bullion coins and cut the collectors coins out of the picture. Doing so would create a nice little "short set".

Of course, the notice said they would be getting rid of the unpopular stuff so maybe they will keep these around.
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

    The name is LEE!
  • I would vote for getting rid of these, with all the problems with the milk spotting issue. By the way, I love the design of the coins I just hate it when they spot.
  • Why would they stop a series with such a high markup over spot?

  • The US Mint said they wanted to retreat to their "core products" with "broadest appeal"

They are also retaining the one ounce 2009-W Gold Eagle. But oddly, not the one ounce 2009-W Platinum Eagle.

I thought they were keeping the one ounce W plats, right along with the one ounce W gold? image

I don't exactly understand the Mint's statement that they issued on the gold eagle subject:

American Gold Eagle Uncirculated Coins - These are the versions offered by the US Mint with the “W” mint mark. The fractional 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, 1/10 oz coins and 4 coin set will be discontinued. Only the one ounce Proof coin will remain.

They deliberately don't say the 1oz is toast along with the other W-uncircs, but then they say only the proof will remain. Not sure exactly what they mean here.

PS: No, they specifically indicate that the 1 oz uncirc W plat is a goner.
