2008-D Business Strike Sacagaweas now a POP 4/0 in MS68. Just got grades

If you think this is easy, I'll put this stat out there: I went through ~.7% of the minted coins to make these 3 MS68's.

Actually less than 1% closer to .7%. The mintage was 1.82 M and I went through about 12500 of them. Its going to be interesting. The bags are sold out at the mint, I got the last 5 of the D bags. The rolls are still onsale but with the odds I can't see doing it via rolls. Its the lowest mintage Sac and the end of the design. I think the series will close with this coin. I made the 3 06-D's in 68 but they were actually easier than the 08-D's, however teh POP will remain lower. The bags if you let them sit for a couple of years tone the coins inside in not too flattering colors, so as time goes on the odds really decrease on making any more.

Clackamas - That is a very, very impressive piece of work you did to earn those (3) MS68 Sacs!

I can tell you (first hand) just how tough the 08-D Sacs are in MS68. I've personally been through close to 1/2 of 1% of the mintage myself (with many bags and coins still to review yet) and have only come across a handful or so of coins worthy of the MS68 grade IMHO. But, as usual, "ownership was worth a point" for me on these coins when PCGS got to see them. But, I am on a mission to slab my 08-D Sac "homemade" (MS68) for my set - which is what makes this hobby and the registry great fun. It took me about -9- years to finally slab a coin for my state quarter set I set out to slab back in 1999. And, as Clackamas points out, this 08-D Sac is quite a challenging coin to say the least!

Congraulations on your home run result!!

Good luck, it took magic coins, and all three came from the same bag. I predicted I would get 3 from the submission (only my wife can attest to it), however 1 of them stands out. Its one of those coins you can crack at anytime and know its comming back in 68. My first 5000 coins yielded nothing but 67's, and not too many of those, so I went bigger on the second bunch. With an under POP of 630+ I can only imagine that a good $150K have been gone through to hit that many MS67's. How many bags do you have left?

By the way, if that MS67 underpop is 630 now - I personally slabbed close to 2/3 of every one of them (sadly). I cracked (5) coins out of the roughly (400)+ MS67 coins to "tuck away for a rainy day" in safelips. Hopefully, that wine will ripen sometime in the next 10 years - sooner rather than later. I have a handful of bags and a bunch of rolls to finish up with - a few thousand more coins and I will be finished my pursuit (and I should likely make one when all the dust settles). But. your (3) coins are an incredible "bird in the hand". If I had been shipped that bag from the Mint in the first place, the pop on the MS67 would not be 630 today but more like 230! image

That one coin I was talking about was one of those top coins in a colum in a bag, it has a super orange color with one of those first strike lusters. I can take credit for around 40 of the 67's.

All the 2008 Sacs are no longer available from the Mint...
