i'm in tha 66 crowd here but try and get tha graders grading it respectfully is another thing

keydates just aren't graded like the rest and 66 is my wag only too i'm very aware of

strike may not be 66 but preservation should be bring in some account

Although the pics give the coin a nice, eye-appealing appearance...they aren't very good for assessing a grade. That said, it seems to me like there is wear in Liberty's hair above her forehead and in the area around her temple. There also seems to be wear on the eagle's breast feathers. However, the weakness of the letters in the mottos on the reverse seem like the result of a weak strike (I don't know if that is common for this date/mm).

All in all, I would still assume wear and assign a grade in the high AU range.

Yep its mine, and to let everyone know here it is an UNC example. CAC has stickered it, and I feel the grade assigned to it is one grade lower than it should be. Too many others in the same grade are much worse than this one.

Well, then...what I am seeing must be the results of a weak strike or the pics. Therefore, I revise my grade assessment to MS64 or 65.

But everything I've said so far in this thread has been a big SWAG - scientific, wild-*** guess.

Peace dollar grading is one big guessing game (IMHO).

If this picture is accurate as to hits and luster breaks, then the obverse seems like a solid 65 while the reverse would border 64/65 So my bet is that it is graded as a 65. I agree with the poster that said the week lettering on the reverse is due to strike. I cant see any discernible wear on the breast of the eagle or liberty's face - so it must be an UNC, not a an AU. It is easy to be harsher when grading a coin that you KNOW is a condition rarity because, well, you KNOW it is a condition rarity, but I think the coin is a fairly solid 65.

Were you hoping 66? Or is it in a 64 holder and you know it belongs in a 65 slab?


NOTE: My opinion is assuming pictures are accurate as to luster, wear, and hits.

That obverse has awesomely clear fields. It may be held a grade lower for a less than hammered strike. Those pictures make it tough to grade but I could see 65 or 66. Really need better pictures.

There appears to be some planchet chatter around the edges, and a few minor hits in the hair. Looks like some ticky-tack stuff on the reverse as well. MS64. Nice luster. JMO

What did PCGS say and CAC copycat?

just an FYI, i bought it well before CAC came out. I had it stickered at Coinfest earlier this month.

I like this dollar. A lot. MS64 seems very conservative.

But why can't you correct the color and focus? White balance is so easy to do. If this is the best focus then maybe you've got strike or rub issues.
