I think Coins and CoinAge are pretty much aimed at beginners.

Coins, in particular, seems to have about 14 months' worth of article ideas that they continually recycle.

Most everyone seems to read Coin World, but I find I rarely spend more than 15 minutes with each issue.

If you have a specific interest, then a membership to a specialty organization (like the Liberty Seated Collector's Club or John Reich Collector's Society) is an excellent idea!

Check out the Southern Gold Society

I really enjoy CW, NN and the Numis. in that order. Agree, join ANA!

  • Demand that your local public library subscribe to all of them, then visit often and read them there until you decide which one you really want to subscribe to. Everybody wins!

  • ChrisRX made a comment in a similar thread, and coupled with what DaveG said about '15 minutes' (seems like CW, NN are 70% ads).......as ChrisRX said, it's good readin' while on the throne (not verbatim). Personally, having had 3 surgeries in 6 months, having been laid up almost a full year (nothing REALLY serious, just disc problems, but oooooohhh, the pain...), I get them all....CW, NN, Coins, CoinAge, The Numismatist...I think thats it....but it keeps my attention on coins, which keeps me from writhing around like a croc's death roll...LOL

edited to add: In direct response to the OP's question, as savoyspecial mentioned (and many others agree), I cast another vote for The Numismatist. It's worth the dues alone. Makes the others look like the Sunday funny pages.
I'll come up with something, eventually.
