Ebay sellers - Have you noticed what the fees are on ...

Ebay is pushing sellers to use Buy it Now (Fixed Price selling) with FREE S/H! Have you noticed what your fees are for this type of transaction? image

I can see that I personally will no longer be using Fixed Price Selling (Buy It Now)
and FREE SHIPPING!

If you sell on ebay using this feature - take note that above
& beyond the usual inserion fees, picture fees (unless you host your own),
Gallery fees, etc ... the Final Value Fees on BIN/ BEST OFFER, is a whopping
12% as opposed to the customary, considerably lower fvf for AUCTIONS!

Figure it all up! Insertion fees stick regardless. 5% MORE for BIN/ BEST OFFER
is totally INSANE! Sell a $500 item and ebay takes $60. PayPal TAKES what you
charge for S/H (if you DO charge S/H) AND THEN SOME, which means S/H now comes
out our pockets along with shipping supplies etc.

This was the first time I have EVER used BIN and it is definitely going to be the last!
I was not being facetious when I wrote, "PLEASE, don't anyone BUY" an item I had
listed as a BIN of $600 or Best Offer (which was pre-set to decline ALL OFFERS under $500!)

With this in mind, it is far better to offer any merchandise you might want to sell - on
the Buy, Sell or Trade Forum, to fellow club member at or about 20% less than the BEST
"going rate" you can find on FeeBay!

Between listing fees, extras, final value fees, PayPal's "take", actual S/H cost & supplies -
coming to right at 20%, indeed it would be best to offer merchandise to potential buyers
right here on the BS&T AND to accept payment using personal checks, Business checks,
e-checks thru PayPal (IF the rate is still a flat $5) US Postal or Bank issued Money Orders!

NO MORE BUY IT NOW FOR ME! And that's that!image

I don't really sell much but I did a BIN sale a few days ago and the fees were 6%.

Is the 12% for an Ebay store BIN?

Yes, it's been no secret to those of us selling that ebay has been making change after change to gradually raise fees. Here is a calculator that works pretty well for you to see what the new fees are.

Basicly, for a coin under $150 with paypal and now powerseller rebate you're pushing 15%. Of course for 15% ebay distributes a glossy catalog and markets your coin to the top buyers in the country...er, wait, I was thinking of Heritage, Bowers, Superior and other top auction houses. Ebay is the one who gives me only a buggy software system and crappy customer support. that's right. My bad. --Jerry

Actually for coins BIN its: 12% up to $50..& 6% fr $50-$1000...2% over $1000.
different percentiles for different categories. Not sure what the store % rate is.

you have to do a auction with a BIN of like $5 more to get the lower fees.

It cost me a $45 fee to figure that out.

If you don't want to pay the higher fixed price final value fee, don't list fixed price.

Exactly! Your #s and calculations are exactly right!

I submit that with the # of listings on any given day,
IF ebay were to keep their "insertion" fees as presently are
AND charge a flat rate, across the board fvf of a meer 5% ...
IF PayPal charged a flat 2% - they STILL would not only do well,
they would actually generate more interest & realize more PROFIT
than they presently are by GOUGING their sellers to Death.

Another very important factor in their present decline is this
assinine philosophy that buyers can do no wrong & the stripping
sellers of the right to defend themselves - taking away the ability
to leave negative feedback for buyers that deserve such - also
making it far too convenient for said buyers to make off with goods
and getting their funds back, leaving the true drivetrain/ heartbeat
of ebay hung out to dry - vulnerable, powerless & defenseless.

If you starve the mules - the cart won't move! Granted, there ARE less
than ethical sellers on ebay but what ebay has yet to figure out is so too
are there less than ethical BUYERS who jump at the chance to obtain goods
FREE OF CHARGE ... AND leave unjustified Negatives on the way out the door!

All these factors are directly responsible for ebay's downhill slide - and
this is NOT taking into account the present situation with the overall "Economy".

FWIW - JMHO as it relates to the sale/ auctioning of COINS & Numismatic
    material on ebay, TODAY!image

Fixed price (Buy it Now) is good for a seller as long as cashback is available to the buyer. I have seen fee percentages vary with BIN depending on the price. One thing they really hammer you on with fees is listing more than one item (such as "10 available") with a BIN. Had 50 $28 items listed with a single BIN and they wanted like $3 and some change per item selling fee. I quickly removed the listing.

Make no mistake, the Cashback promo and the higher BIN fees at the same time are not a coincidence. BIN now will fall out of "flavor" when there is no cashback promo to support it.

    Agreed again!

I've used auctions successfuly for well over 5 years now. I've tried just a handful of BIN with mixed results but now, having seen the percentages that I SHOULD HAVE READ BEFOREHAND, I believe I'm done with BIN for good.

Going back to & sticking with Auctions. I get better results that way anyway!image
