Next year could see some low mintages but will you be buying?

No plans at this time. I have not purchased anything from the Mint since the 20th Anniversary SAEs and GAEs.
  • No. Wait.. let me rephrase that: hell no!

I have no plans to buy directly from the mint unless they start selling early American coins. image

I'll try to keep buying the things that I like, but it depends on the designs a lot. The proposed plat designs, for instance, may make me give up on that series unless they're really cheap. The high-relief double eagle is a must-have. Other things will depend on my checkbook.

I was thinking about buying up all the 2001 Kennedy halves and starting my own store. Maybe I can sell them faster than the mint.

two mint sets, two silver proof sets. maybe a Gold Buff........

  • The same as always.
Mint set, silver & clad proofs, both ASEs and proof AGE.

I like to keep everything up to date.

I wait til they're all available to save on shipping but couldn't get the gold Eagle this year.
Had to buy it on eBay but for $80 less that the mint had asked.

I suppose I'd buy the 2009 high relief gold coin, but how much will it cost? I wonder.
  • I'll continue the silver & clad proof subscriptions until they release the territorial quarters next year. I'm not interested in the Prez program at all. I've already cancelled my PF & UNC SAE's, and I will discontinue the quarter rolls once the Territorials are released. I'll probably continue to buy bags of Kennedy's and Sac's to cherrypick high grade business strikes, and I'll only order commems if I happen to like the design. I really would like to have some of the fractional gold Buff's, but I'm fed up with the Mint's constant price fluctuations and delays. By the end of next year, all of my subscriptions will have been cancelled.

  • Probably the High Relief, the quarter ounce buffalo, the ASE, clad and silver proofs, and the satin finish mint set. I think there are suppose to be collectors versions of the Lincoln Cent also, so I will pick those up. Next year may be my last year for proof sets, and I only buy commems I like, so will have to check those out as they come out.

depends on the state of the US economy, etc.

My only purchase will be the 2009 Silver Proof sets, which I use as gifts. Once those are received I will probably cancel my subscription. The silver proof sets have been a big disappointment. I only kept buying them to insure complete sets of the state, etc quarters would be assembled.

Not sure, even the regular stuff is becoming pricey in these economic times. I haven't even purchased my silver proof sets for the year yet. Maybe I'll cut down my usual 5 to 2 or 3.

Other than that, I'm really curious to hear more about this NASA Commemorative set. I think it's got spectacular potential to be beautiful coins. They seem to have forgotten that the legislation says they have to have all orders received by Dec. 31, 2008. Yeah right!

My plans are the same as they've been my entire coin collecting life: to do no business whatsoever with the U.S. Mint.
    When in doubt, don't.

Maybe a high relief buffalo - otherwise no.

Nothing. The prez dollars and stupid first spouse coins were the last straw after 30 years of annual purchases from the mint.
